5 Tips to Protect Plants During Heat Wave | Vegetable Gardening During Triple Digits

Gardening in the desert has a unique set of challenges. One of those is dealing with the high temperatures we face during the summer. Daytime temperatures often reach the triple digits, sometime for weeks at a time when we have severe heat waves. These high temperatures can make vegetable gardening a real struggle. Plants will struggle to have enough water, they may look droopy and leaves may start to dry up and die.
This unique challenge also has some unique strategies that we can use to help protect our plants and make sure they are able to thrive even during extreme temperatures.
In this video I share 5 tips to help you face the challenge of gardening during a heat wave and during extremely high temperatures. These 5 gardening tips will help you to be more successful while gardening in the desert during triple digit temperatures.
I also share a bonus tip to help attract pollinators even during a heat wave and prevent damage from animals that may find their way into your garden during high temperatures.

  1. I really liked the tips you shared. Really helpful! Most vegetable plants can't really deal with high temperatures. Looking forward to your next video.:)

  3. Making sure you are watering properly can really help during high temps. The best way to do this is by using drip irrigation. 💦

This video talks about setting up drip irrigation and is perfect for new gardeners who have no experience with setting something like that up. Be sure to check it out!

  4. I've heard numerous sources say misting is helpful so now I'm confused but I've never noticed an ill effect from midday watering even the leaves in my hot and very dry summers in the pacific northwest (maybe in the south there would be more humidity problems but we are temporarily dry as a bone!)
