Garden Design Tips for Beginners

Attention new gardeners! So you’re a beginner? When I started my garden years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about Garden Design. I read a lot of books, visited a lot of gardens, and ultimately came up with some things to help me start a garden from scratch and use my intuition to create a beautiful landscape. If I did it, you can too! Hopefully the tips I share in this video will be helpful. Get your garden designer on! #gardening #garden #beginners #gardendesign

  1. Hello Linda; New to your channel, you inspire me! So far I've been watching every video from your oldest to present! What is the paint color on your picket fencing & window boxes?

  2. Thanks for the gardening design tips! Now I can imagine what I can do in my backyard. So much shade there from lots of 30 year old trees. Love the QVC line. Waiting for my order to arrive!

  3. Hi Linda. Thank you so much for this very informative video. I'm a new gardener from South Africa and this video came into my feeds when I was searching for tips. Thanks again

  4. I would absolutely love to see "before" photos of the garden. Also, I would love to see more comparison shots of the same area in the different seasons. That's the hardest for me. It is not hard to make a garden look colorful and full in the summer, but getting some evergreen structure so it still looks good in the winter–that's more difficult.

  5. Very helpful tips!
One thing I find that really makes me grit my teeth is how often you say Stewart's name. Yikes. Can't you 2 make a plan ahead of time where you want him to go?

  6. I'm curious, do you have artificial turf? If so how do you manage with dirt and debris and why did you decide to put it in rather than a lawn? Your garden is so beautiful, if this is real grass I am impressed!

  7. I really REALLY appreciate your wonderful advice! Your yard is absolutely gorgeous. Many many tips I plan to implement. Thank you so much. One of my favorite channels for gardening🥰🏵🌹🌺

  8. I absolutely love your videos, you are one of my go-to gardeners here on YouTube! As a beginner gardener myself, I have so-so much to learn from you. I also love your sense of humor, I still remember the video with the "Easter squirrel" that you posted this Easter, that was hilarious.

  9. Any good vibes your feeling are reflections of you!!! We are all your receptacles and bounce back all of your energy, joy, beauty & passion "we thank you!!!!!!"

  10. OMG😱 your landscape has always looked gorgeous but seeing the view from the street it looks magnificent!!!🥰👏🏾 what a difference I'm gonna have to start looking at my property from a far that is an excellent tip! THANK YOU!!!

  11. You do a great job explaining design concepts. I like that your explanations are not overly brief. I am not a gardening beginner but I learned from this video and now I head outside to look at my Pennsylvania garden with new eyes.

  12. What can you do if surface tree roots prevent you from planting under a tree? The ground is so hard, full of roots and the area gets little sun even after pruning the canopy.

  13. Your neighborhood reminds me of a lot of the old neighborhoods in the Denver area. Gorgeous! What a dream home!

  14. Linda, thank you so much for your garden videos. Do you have garden fabric layed out underneath your gravel in the dining and bistro areas?

  15. Your videos are always inspiring as well as instructional! Thank you. Kudos to Stewart for his filming ability. I particularly note how well the vagaries of lighting is generally handled in your videos. I have a wee gripe on word term use in this video I’d never noticed in other videos. I cringed with your repetitive use of the possessive. Does your beautiful home and it’s gardens not also belong to Stuart/Stewart? If so wouldn’t it be more appropriate to say, particularly when he is present, “our home, our house, our garden?” Maybe I am just over sensitive. I once had a partner who took ownership and credit for everything we owned and everything we mutually accomplished as we renovated a large old victorian mini-mansion. His insensitivity broke my heart countless times. Perhaps your fella could care less but I found myself wincing for him in this video release. Just an old gal’s 2 cents for what it’s worth. Please Forgive Me if your fellow has no co-ownership of your property and I am way out of place.

  16. Hey Linda Thank You for posting Awesome videos, your hints and tips are so helpful, you’ve got an Army of growing viewers…

  17. It would help for you to say where you are located. All tips don't work for every area. I live in New England. Short growing season and tough weather.

  18. I’m so happy to have found you!! I have gardened for 20 year but you have given me a new direction 😍
Your like a great friend talking to me every day as I get ready for work!
So may days you have gotten me outside at 0-dark-30 to start my day of gardening 👩‍🌾
Thank you for who you are and sharing with us all 🥰🥰🥰
    Love you 😘🥰😍

  19. I recently purchased lukespar and planted it in my garden. After planting it, I found out that there are serious warnings about touching lukespar, foxglove. Now im afraid. I love foxglove and lukespar but Im so afraid of breathing the pollen or getting the toxins in my eyes or forgetting to wash my hands after touching the plants and transferring the toxins on my hands to my food. Have you ever experienced health problems with these plants? Anyone else, have had problems with foxglove or lukespar? I have to be extra careful as a gardener because I have lymphedema in my hand and arm, so im now researching the flowers and their planting instructions.

  20. Linda, what a great tip regarding the shade point and designing a garden. I love your front windows and notice you have a white type shade or screen on the bottom half; can you share with us what you got going there? I love your garden it reminds me of a peaceful park.

  21. I am 62 and about to pursue gardening this spring for the first time of my life! Thanks to you Linda! Thanks for this video it is an absolute wealth of information! You have that perfect combination of knowledge, enthusiasm and skill, all communicated so warmly. How could anyone just watch and not get their hands dirty!?!

  22. What excellent and insightful tips!!! I am so pruning up my snowball bush which is also gigantic but gives my front bedroom privacy in our subdivision. Also so much fun to watch and listen to the little birdies in the shrub as I sit in my bedroom! Bonus!

  23. Thanks for the excellent information and practical tips. I notice the brick border going around the outside of your front garden coordinates with (matches) your house’s brick color. I love the idea of getting up on a ladder to look. I am currently working on my front garden design.
