Help! hatchet/axe identification and purpose: this was used in 1950-1970. Only one side of the head has an angle to sharpen (think lawnmower blade). What’s the purpose? and how do I sharpen it?

It’s a broadaxe for woodworking/ carving. It looks like the handle is offset instead of centered in the head. If so then definitely a broadaxe. A common use is to split thin strips of wood without breaking but it has many uses.
Not sure about any special sharpening instructions other than to maintain the single side bevel.
