Tips on planting Bare Root Roses 'Generous Gardener' from David Austin Roses

Work continues in the home garden. This week I show you the completed garden arch and plant bare-root roses at its sides.

Bare root roses are plants sent with bare roots. They’ll come in the autumn and winter and be dormant. You can plant them at any time, except during a really deep freeze.

The rose variety I chose is called Generous Gardener from David Austin Roses. This type is a climbing rose with fragrant old rose scent and pale pink petals. What I especially like about them is that they produce beautiful hips that I’ll be able to harvest for tea next autumn.

Planting bare root roses begins with soaking the plants in water, working manure into the soil, and planting along with mycorrhizal fungi. These pellets help to create bigger and better root systems, naturally.

Question for you: Are you planting roses this autumn? If so, what varieties do you have planned and have already growing in your garden?
