Container Gardening

A MUST HAVE FOR CONTAINER GARDENING ⚠️

If you garden in containers, or if you have water features in your landscape, or even birdbaths, you probably need this. Mosquitos can be a problem in the summer and I’ve found this product really works well to control them in any standing water I have around my house.

  1. Great video! Mosquitos haven't been too bad this year for us where we are. But I'm going to pick up some of these bottles

  2. in theory is a "good thing" however have u read the ingredients? For many who wants no pesticides or herbicides in our food or close to our plants the product is a no good due to the ingredients. Some time ago i purchase one container of the mosquito bites…. but when i came home and read the instructions i also read the ingredients and my heart sink to my feet…oh boy i just realized then that it can not be used if i wanted no pesticides or herbacides…TX is a mosquito heaven but what works for me is a little orange oil with dishwasher soap or agricultural soap mix it and put it into the water…works like a charm and it is cheaper and safer. Thank you for the tip…

  3. Alan, it's a bacteria variation of BT like what we use for tomato and army worms, but one that targets mosquito larvae (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis). It's a natural bacteria in a dormant granular form.

  4. Thank you this is very helpful I just started tub/container gardening this year because I’m disabled God put it in my path with free tubs so thankful He did thank you for the video

  5. I know they claim that everything is bigger in Tx. but I'll match these Alabama skeeters to yours any day. Thanks for this information, now to catch my neighbor gone so I can treat his water element in his front yard lol. I use grow bags but I have them sitting on the soil.

  6. Here is what i found…. BIT is very good and safe for humans and other animals…but the bag only have 3% of it…97 percent is label as "other ingredients" and that is a huge red flag for me. Moreover there is a warning on the back of the bag..which says it is harmful to humans and domestic animals and other critters…while BIT is safe for humans, pets, other animals and even fish…so what is the harmful part that can put you in harms way? The unknown 97 percent that these company is not listing… They used to list all the ingredients (97 percent other ingredients) But the new package is not listing them as they used to do…so be careful… Here is what BTI is  serotype  () is a group of bacteria used as biological control agents for larvae stages of certain dipterans. Bti produces toxins which are effective in killing various species of mosquitoes, fungus gnats, and blackflies, while having almost no effect on other organisms. The major advantage of  products is that they are thought to affect few non-target species. However, even though Bti may have minimal direct effects on non-target organisms, it may potentially be associated with knock-on effects on food webs and other ecosystem properties, including biodiversity and ecosystem functioning.  Check the "Knock-on effects on food webs and other ecosystem properties"  Another red flag if you want to protect the environment (much needed right now).  So it is personal preference if you use this product or not…I once believe that what was printed on the bags and cans was gospel but now i read, investigate and draw my conclusions before I buy a product…no more blind tests for me for sure.  Blessings to all

  7. When you prune your blackberries, do you sell the cuttings? I'd love to buy a few to root and start a blackberry patch full of those huge blackberries.

  8. Isn’t there a flower you can plant as well? I’m in Alabama. Mosquitoes are awful in our humidity. I planted Rosemary and mosquito plants in my garden. If there were any around or on the plants themselves I used diatomaceous earth

  9. Our problem is that containers are very expensive if you want something that looks around the home, or even in the garden which is close to the home.

  10. Where I was living during lockdown, last year, they had a terrible time with mosquitos and mosquito-born illness (malaria and Dengue fever.) it was starting to rival Covid in the way it was spreading. Because during lockdown, people were not allowed into your home/property/workplace/worksite. So pest control from could not go anywhere and do their usual spraying/inspecting.

  11. Mosquito Bits is a biological control method. I too have seen the oily film it leaves on top of water and I’m sure that helps provide some mechanical protection (mosquito larvae breathe air through a straw-like appendage as they sit just under the surface of the water.) But the main control method is that the bits are impregnated with BTI, a natural pest-killing bacteria. It does not harm other organisms other than caterpillars and other bugs, I believe, but is specifically insecticidal to these pests and is also found in pest control sprays. When I was using Mosquito Bits in the tropics, it usually lasted a week, but I put down bits twice per week in my rainwater barrels or applied again after a large rainstorm, as it gets diluted and mosquito larvae come back. Although it was quite an expensive product, it was not as expensive as getting a $200-500 fine from the local NEA (environmental agency that inspects all properties regularly.)

  12. I don't think I'd like to use something that 'kills' mosquitoes in my wicking tubs where I am growing vegetables.
