Amazing EDIBLE GARDEN & TREES Using WOOD CHIPS

Amazing EDIBLE GARDEN & TREES Using WOOD CHIPS. In this video I take you on a tour of my Tempe Phoenix Desert Garden and show you how I use Wood Chips to grow my garden and edible trees. I use wood chips for compost, water conservation, to boost microbial life in the soil, and for animal bedding. Wood chips break down into Forest Humus and create amazing nutrients for the plants and trees! The wood chips I’ve used in my edible landscape are free and delivered to my house! They also keep tree and plant roots cooler during the hot summer months! Please comment below and “Like” this video! 🙂

  1. just found your vids, im really intrigued with the idea of having a lush backyard…….in this friggn desert.
Are any wood chips ok? What about termites? Thanks Man

  2. Do you have any advice for the skeptics mentioning the Carbon>Nitrogen ratio and the possibility of the chips preventing liquid fertilizer from reaching the root system?

  3. Hello. I follow your Facebook page/group. Thank goodness for your channel. I am going to try this here in Queens, NY.

  4. Last year i had them bring me a few loads and i put like a foot of wood chips and boy have theve broken down really good here in my zone 9 2B DRY HOT ARID and we're not as hot as Arizona but every year we average 30 plus day of 100 degrees or more and get to 111 and even seen 115 here before, my twin went to Phoenix and he said that 115 is cool for them out there! ANYHOO, I'm growing my usual salsa garden and I've been known to grow some big monstrous plants and look forward to see what less watering and cooler soil temperatures will accomplish.

  5. Man bro you da man….I never thought that wood chips could go that far!!
The only thing I could think of was what about pesticides and chemicals being sprayed on the trees and what not before they were thrown in the chipper?
I ask because I really dont like chemicals, that's why organic gardening appeals to me so much, look forward to your response and God bless

  6. I started using wood chips donated by a family down the road !!!!

They are amazing , and i even have volunteer plants coming up through the wood chips !!!!

  7. Rain water is best. City tap water kills bacteria. Sun bleaches out or evaporates chlorine. Just put out in 5 or 55 gallon container. Solves that problem.

  8. 1. Wood chips insulate soil from heat.
    2. Wood chips separates sunlight from soil.
    3. Wood Chips are a mulch.
    4. Chip mulch becomes compost.
    5. Compost is better than Top Soil.
    6. Provides Nutrients, Minerals, Organic Matter, Worms, Fungi, Microbes, Etc.
    7. Real Soil covered and protected is a real Live Life Plant feeding System. Like a Solar System. Soul Microbioligical System. Created and set up by the Creator. Didnt just happen.

  9. Been watching a bunch of your videos recently, you really have re-motivated me to get my Phoenix area garden going again. Thanks!

  10. Does anyone using wood chips, have insect problems around the garden or home? I want to start using chips but have this concern.

  11. Nature brings the animals to poop and pee all over the tree's, plants and also to die and decompose all over the forest floor. Nature is not Vegan but all things God made works together. Just the facts.

  12. So trees invented flowers to attract insects butterflies etc not one of these drop to the earth beneath the tree … Fruit to attract larger animals fruit bats birds none of these poop or drop off the perch …hey trees invented perches too !
Trees are not vegan …. And will grow their roots to any source of food they can get ,,,

  13. I learned a lot and of massive education with you sir, great job and keep on inspiring

  14. Nice tortoise!! Perfect for the forever garden. Don’t forget about the fungi!! The mushrooms that are part of the underground community with microbes. It’s an whole world of organisms.

  15. This dude personifies every preconceived notion anyone might have about vegans/sport buffs lol. Kudos for the plants who stand being around him.

  16. I found your video very informative. Thank you for those tips on hot composting. About the wood chips, I recently got pine wood chips from a chipper company who dumped a truck load of chips in my front yard. When I spread them around my fruit trees in my backyard, I found the Peach, Apple and Orange trees immediately dropping fresh newly grown green leaves (April -Spring time). I am reading that the wood chips tie up nitrogen – is that why my trees are dropping leaves?

  17. I am so torn by your approach so I would appreciate your help.
    1. From personal experience I’ve found over mulching my ornamental beds a detriment because the mulch tends to break down to a point where it locks up and prevents rainfall penetration
Companies in my area are paid to remove excess mulch because it builds up and damages plants
    2. I see microbial activity being diverted to digest wood instead of providing soil life . As such I see a lot of nitrogen being diverted to composting versus plant nutrition especially with green wood chips
    3. Are you supplying additional nutrients
On my property logs that have fallen and are under going decomposition tend to have fungi populations. I don’t see tons of evidence for volunteer plant growth until late in the process when the log is nearly completely decomposed. Point being is that it is a time waited process and I can’t wrap my head around the short time you seem to achieve with active breakdown
You are obviously doing something right. I applaud your success. I am just confused at this point

  18. Incase anyone needs this tip: Junk mail, paper waste, and cardboard can be shredded and used as a carbon source for your compost. It's really just wood pulp. Of course you'll want to be conscious of dyes or plastics, but I hardly send any paper or cardboard to the recycle center anymore. I think it's a win-win.

  19. Out of all of the videos I've watched over the last couple of years concerning the landscape this by far is the best I've seen. Nice job! Thank you!
