The tomato (see pronunciation) is the edible, red fruit of Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant, which belongs to the nightshade family, Solanaceae. The species originated in Central and South America. The Nahuatl (Aztec language) word tomatl gave rise to the Spanish word “tomate”, from which the English word tomato originates.

Numerous varieties of tomato are widely grown in temperate climates across the world, with greenhouses allowing its production throughout the year and in cooler areas. The plants typically grow to 1–3 meters (3–10 ft) in height and have a weak stem that often sprawls over the ground and vines over other plants. It is a perennial in its native habitat, and grown as an annual in temperate climates. An average common tomato weighs approximately 100 grams (4 oz).
Its use as a food originated in Mexico, and spread throughout the world following the Spanish colonization of the Americas.

  1. Once the roots get to the proper size do you cut the cup lid to remove the plant without hurting the roots?

  2. You made a comment about sometimes a tomatoe will stay on your vine for a month or so before ripening? I'm growing some Cherokee purples and they have been on there forever seems like they will never ripen while my hybrids are ripening right up??? Any reasons for this? Is it just heirlooms that do this? Or I'm a just not being patient …..

  4. The intro music exploded my ears. I have no idea what, if anything, you might have said afterwards.

  5. One of my tomato got stunted due to unstable temperature in the spring. I sprayed Gibberellic acid solution onto its leaves, and it started to grow in a week. That tomato plant grew into normal size eventually, no excessive growth.

  6. Great informative video hope your having a great day ,love all the plants sorry one had to be clipped, hope it revives for you in it's cup cool idea.

  9. I had two stunted pepper plants. They weren’t in the way so I left them. After a few months and fertilizer they grew. They haven’t produced anything though.

  10. Awesome video! I'm growing tomatoes in 5 gallon buckets. I have 8 plants, and all are doing wonderfully except for one. It took off well after planting, but hasn't grown at all in probably 2-3 weeks, and leaves are curled up. The leaves look nice and green when I unroll them…this might be a dumb question, but if I were to cut it, could I then replant it in the same container/soil if I dig out the old root system? The plants have only been in there for about a month, and like I said, everybody else is doing well. Thanks!

  11. Google is amazing! Here is why: Drought, sustained winds, water-logged soil, poor quality transplants, temperature extremes, and cloddy or compacted soils high in clay can all cause the stunting of young seedlings or transplants.

  12. I have less than grape size tomatoes. They haven't changed/grown in the last 3weeks. They seem to have stalled.

  13. My tomato plants have not grown more then 3” tall (yes three inches. They’re about the same size as when I planted them 6 weeks ago, purchased from garden center) BUT all the 3” tall plants are producing tomatoes, SO PERPLEXED. What would you suggest?

  14. It's a brilliant idea. I suspect my potting mix is too salty. If the plant takes off, you know it's below ground. It could also be too cool in spring here yet.

  15. Susah banget memulih kan tomat kerdil.trimakasih bang informasinya, bermanfaat banget,
