How to Build a Raised Vegetable Bed? Vegetable Gardening 101, CiCi Li – Asian Home Cooking Recipes

Let’s build a raised garden bed, vegetable gardening 101. 😀

Board:
You can customize the broads you need, and Home Depots will cut them for you.
The broads that we got are 2 “x 12”
Long sides: 2 pieces of 2” x 12”, 6 ft in length.
Short sides: 2 pieces of 2” x 12”, 6 ft in length.

Nails:
16 pieces (3 inches) deck nails

Soil types:
7 bags top soil (60%)
5 bags compost (40%)
1 bag of ground cover

To calculate the required soil:
H x L x W = cubic feet of soil

So, for example: 1 ft x 2 ft x 6 ft = 12 cuft
60% topsoil = 12 x 0.6 = 7.2 cuft (1 cubic foot = bags, need to buy 7 bags)
40% compost = 12 x 0.4 = 4.8 cuft (need to buy 5 bags)

  1. Great looking raised bed. Thanks for sharing! We’ve had ours for five years now and have grown corn, tomatoes, bell peppers, garlic, onions, and all sorts of herbs in it. Spacing out the seedlings is a must, otherwise it’ll look like a jungle when the plants grow, lol!

  2. Raised bed is very best garden design. But all that stuff would would cost alot

  3. Loved the video! Will give it a try tomorrow and make sure to enlist the kids to help! Thanks for the tips and soil calculations!! 🙂
