Welcome to our allotment jobs for October video from our allotment gardening for beginners UK series. There are a surprising number of jobs to be done on the allotment in October. The weather is getting colder and wetter so we are finding that a lot of our vegetables are coming to an end but we still have our winter vegetables in the ground to look after.
There are few things that can be planted as you can see from our what to sow in October video. https://youtu.be/FiWfWZZF5Ww
We are harvesting or digging our potatoes in October in this video.
The allotment in October is still full of life so we just need to choose good days to walk to it and harvest or plant a few vegetables or fruit. The weather is still warm enough to produce new growth but we will be spending some time preparing the ground for the winter and next spring.

Allotment holders seem to grow lots of runner beans but they don’t freeze we’ll do they?
Been a good year for rhubarb!
I have two compost bins in my garden, something really satisfying about the process. Or is that just me lol😅
I have my garlic ready to plant this month but i dont have much room so plan to use a raised planter. I can either put the planter in the full sun where it will get all the rain etc or put it against the house wall (north facing) where it will be protected from 75% of the rain as there is an overhang. I've not grown garlic before so would appreciate advice. (Ne uk,).
The brassicas are doing well. Sown the garlic. Otherwise not a lot growing. Getting ready for next season. Going to be a year of experimentation. So see how we go.
I've prepared a bed for winter cabbage and my partner is building me a cage to go over itxx
At least I know the jobs I need to do now !
I have great memories of my fathers allotment from growing up. When day to day stuff lessens an allotment may well become a priority…
I had plenty of flowers on my courgettes but no fruit what am I doing wrong
