Raised beds are a good solution for urban gardening, as the soil in the city can be contaminated. For Brian’s bed, we used the lasagna gardening method to create the garden soil, it worked great. Vid here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuNUTTFYArY&index=4&list=PLK9GxIRaLC5XSdIyNqGycDV4lSUR8YVEm

what you could do is fill the bottom with organic wood material like branches, stomps, wood chips like from a tree service, this will soak up water when it rains and store some of that for the plants to use, saving water. just stay clear of treated wood chips you may get in the bags .
other thought is to use galvanized half round cellar window wells, bolt them together for circles or other shapes to reduce wood rot and not using pressure treated wood that can leach into veggies.
Excellent work.
Great idea on saving money and reusing stuff. But I know you are not growing peppers outside in NYC in April, LOL.
Did you, or Brian, add earth worms to the raised bed. I am assuming the weed blocker would prevent worms coming up from the local soil.
Thanks, Bob
Very nice looking set up. It makes me dream of warmer weather.
Rock on guys !
great idea for the soil test, thank you!
An oasis in the jungle…
That is one great garden, and the white wall is genius.
There certainly looks like a very wide variety of crops growing too.
