  1. Olive tree could bounce back just buy some olive tree feed ( olive focus) , put it in most sunny spot you can find. I’d also check bottom of the pot for roots coming out, it may be it needs repotting into slightly bigger pot. It needs to be in well dranining soil and watered 1-2 a week in the summer. I like to put 3-4 large stones in the bottom of one out and then pop potted plant on top so that it never sits in water too. ❤️

  2. When I left my first husband I rented a flat which I repainted every room straightaway and added bits and pieces that made it mine and a reflection of my personality. People leaving negative comments have not understood how important it is for us to not just have a roof over our heads but to be completely comfortable in our surroundings. All the effort you are making will really pay off in the long run. Best wishes. PS just have 20 more pages to go of your book – really fantastic. Thank you for writing it.

  3. Get the olive tree in the south facing garden! The warmest, driest place in your garden. And re pot it in a bigger pot, that has a bottom layer of soil with good drainage (sandy or rocky).

  4. I’m a home owner and have lived in this house for over 30 years. While I have deep roots here, I have always known there will come a time to move on. I know that time is coming. I do identify with the need to make a home your own, owned or rented, while keeping in mind that things change. Thank you for your work, honest, enjoyable and grounding.

  5. Would you do video or mention what do you use for your hair? I have the same type of as you – thin and wavy, but your's looks very shiny and healthy.

P.S. And your white sneakers – what brand are they? I'm sorry for these not related to video questions 😉

  6. Regardless of whether it's a rental it's your home which you need to feel safe, comfortable and happy in. So slapping some paint on the walls and buying things you can take with you I don't understand why some people have a negative problem with that. Your money, your mental health no explanation should be needed to these people. Do what makes you happy

  7. Morning Jessica,
I lived in rental accommodation for 10 years (the same appartment) and like yourself I wanted to make it my home.
After receiving written authority from the landlords, I painted and put in new flooring. It didn't cost me the earth, but made the appartment somewhere I felt safe, comfortable and importantly happy.
I totally understand wanting a "home" wherever you live and making it yours x

  8. I too love geraniums, or more accurately pelargonium, but my favourite colour is the bright orange! As far from your muted pink and whites as you can get!😅 I noticed two front doors which seem odd to me. Is it because two cottages have been merged into one in the past? Or do you not have a back door? Both gardens have so much potential and I didn't see many weeds in your front borders, just a beautiful mix of plants. Thoroughly enjoyed this 'garden vlog' xxx

  9. Olivetrees don't need a lot of water as they originate from the Mediterranean. And I learned that when you buy a plant you need to give it aan bigger pot with some extra growing space for the roots.

  10. Hey Jessica I haven't messaged in a while, but wanted to say we r in the same situation as u regarding being in a secure long term rental property we too have spent money on it, as how I look at it ur spending everyday there and you will certainly like us get your moneys worth from it, we've lived here 4 yrs now and still love it, we've no plans soon to buy, prices are to high in any case.
Love ur garden and how uv have renovated the cottage it looks gorgeous. ❤️

  11. I think if you repot your olive tree in a bigger pot (the plastic one is definitely way too small, maybe one of the big ones next to the door?) it’ll be fine next year. It might not really do anything anymore this year, but I reckon it just needs a little time to get over having been inside 🤣

  12. That lovely old door in your back garden!! 😍 seriously need to incorporate that in the space somewhere 🙂

  13. Monalogue on YouTube and insta has a lovely cottage garden and you might get inspo from that! I love that pink shade of geranium. Good luck!

  14. Gorgeous country cottage and beautiful garden. You have a lovely home. My friend rents out a very similar cottage she inherited from her father. Her tenant is now in her 70's and has been there ages. She treats the house as though its her own and, as her landlady my friend couldn't be happier 🌈🦋🌈. Jessica, don't worry about leaving clippings on your lawn, providing there are no weeds in the clippings they will feed and nourish the grass xx

  15. My husband and I would love nothing more than buying a house, it's been our dream for as long as we've known each other. But it just isn't a thing we will be able to do for quite a few years. We have 2 kids and if we didn't make our rental comfortable for our needs and preferences, it would be a very depressing day to day life, mourning for our own place and hating the one we're actually in…
We've been here for going on 3 years and have no plan to move soon (I wish…), I sometimes think if I'd known I would have renovated the bathroom as soon as we moved in 🤣
I really enjoy your rental renovation content because it doesn't send me spiraling like other home renovation content does. It inspires me, it gives me the authorisation to do things here even if we haven't bought the place

  16. Hi, I dont have any advice for you 😂, just appreciation for another relaxing, well edited, good content, vlog ❤ You really do give food for thought xx

  17. loved every word of your chat about renovations and 100% agree. Everyon's situations are unique and enable them to take different paths, I'm so grateful that you found a situation that allows you to lay down some roots and make yourself a lovely home where you feel safe. So excited to see the garden freshen up over time! xx

  18. maybe people were asking about renovations with a rental is because in America, most of the time, you're not allowed to do anything to the rental.

  19. I'm so happy to have come across your channel. Your cottage looks so cozy and I love the potted geraniums. I also live in a rented flat and like you I have made it my own.
I call it my cottage on the 4th floor, I have added some wooden beams to the walls and I bought an electric stove which looks like the real thing!
You have done a great job💚 I'm hooked on your channel xx

  20. Loved listening to the birds chirping in the background 🐦 I've been renting my property for 20 years next year and people have always said why are you putting money into someone else's pocket? I don't see it like that, it's my home 🏡

  21. Olive tree recommendation , move to your south facing back garden and see how it recovers as it loves 🌞 , doesn’t need a lot of watering either

  22. Just rake the grass cuttings into the lawn. It adds nutrition to the growing grass.
That Climates is a beautiful color!
Over the years we’ve rented several places, and we’ve always taken care if it like it was our own. We’ve always made improvements and left it better than it was when we moved in.

  23. Think you need to repot your olive tree another YouTuber daintydressdairies has a lovely olive tree and she also is a great Gardner she def will be able to advise 😁😁

  24. In Canada some landlords will contribute towards the cost if the renter is doing the labour. I mean why not it benefits the landlord for their property to be improved/kept up.

  25. I made an olive standard tree and my dog chewed it in half. I was left with a stump. I pruned it neatly and it re grew many branches. I plaited these into a standard. I would suggest potting up to a bigger pot, have good drainage, cut branches back by half and lightly fertilize

  26. I live in the Midwest USA and I love that sweet light pink geranium…I cannot find it here anywhere. I have seen this lovely color from Vibeke designs, a Norwegian designer. Thank you for sharing. 💕

  27. I’m a new sub. And I love how relaxing your video’s are. I live in Antwerp, Belgium so I get the weather! I’m def gonna bingewatch your videos! 🥰

  28. Your home is your safe space and it should bring you happiness. You don’t need to own the space to make it yours. I’ve never owned a home and it took me 15+ years to come to that realization. Living in a temporary mindset by not making a space yours blocks that home feeling from coming to life! I wish you all the best in your home journey. So glad to get to see the progress. <3

  29. Lovely typically English style garden. Don't over sanitize it as it is so pretty looking wild. With the Olive Tree (1) put it in a bigger pot with new soil (2) Feed it with s Seaweed Solution (3) Don't overwater they grow best in a dry sunny Mediterranean climate so up against a sunny warm wall in your garden is fine. Those big pots deserve something special in them too.

  30. I think it is wonderful that you are doing any renovating that makes you feel like it is your home and it is cozy. It is what makes you happy. I renovate and fix every rental I have lived in after selling my house. It gives me piece of mind and makes me happy and calm. In fact I have renovated so many places and never think a thing about not doing it.

  31. I love the geraniums you chose. I did my entire patio in white geraniums and English Ivy climbing up my trellis. Can’t wait to see your flowers after you plant them.

  32. I think it’s wonderful that you’re making your home your own. As you follow a very mindful and intentional lifestyle it makes perfect sense that you would make your space beautiful. As others have said, I don’t believe anyone is owed an explanation of why you live your life how you do but it was very thoughtful of you to talk through your choices. Your home is absolutely beautiful and it’s so nice to see a lovely ‘before’ type garden having a ‘work in progress’ myself! Thank~You for another wonderful vlog.

  33. I know from experience that even if you own a house, if you have a mortgage you are only ever a few pay checks away from potentially losing that home. Nothing in life is permanent, change is something we all have to accept in life. I now rent but I have definitely made my house into my home because I live here and want to live somewhere I love ❤️

  34. I've just discovered your channel and I love it! I live in a rented 850-square-foot cottage in Buffalo, NY, with my husband and daughter. While I'd love to own a home someday, I have always been the type of renter who makes the space cozy, and I believe in leaving places better than I found them. You do you–and enjoy the process of nesting! Looking forward to more great videos, thank you! 🏠🌹💖☕🎉

  35. Just found your channel and love it! I’d definitely be making anywhere I lived (rented or owned) my own space. It’s still where you live and want to be comfortable in regardless of who owns it! My lawn mower spits out grass cuttings when it either needs the grass collecting bit at the back emptying or if the sides of it are clogged up with grass as I think it needs air circulating to pick the grass up x

  36. Hi from New Zealand 🇳🇿 I’ve just come across your channel and love it ! 37.
