Vegetable Gardening on a Small Balcony | Over 150 Vegetables on a Deck

Don’t let a small space stop you from growing tons of fruit, herbs, and vegetables in a small space. If you have a balcony, patio, rental house, or live in a townhouse or apartment, let me share how you can start to grow, harvest, and preserve lots of food in a small space. I’m a homestead dreamer, and until we move to our homestead, I’ll be turning my waiting room into a classroom room on less than an 1/8th of an acre lot. I’m learning how to ‘Become a Farm Girl’ and I’m so happy to meet others that are doing the same! Join me here weekly and on my blog www.becomingafarmgirl.com!

  1. Hello Friends! Living in a small space doesn't mean you can't say yes to your garden/farm dream. Here's how I'm growing and preserving what I grow mostly on a deck. I'd love to hear how you maximize space. If you haven't seen the Green Stalk set up, watch it here: https://tinyurl.com/yu7ufujn. Take care friends, xoxo Cassandra

  2. I haven’t heard of that kind of corn 🌽 before. Curious where you purchased those? 😩 I got blossom end rot on some of my tomatoes 🍅. I’m hoping I’ve got it taken care of 🤞🏻 battling vine borers now.

  3. Great job Cassandra! Do you ever use flowers, herbs or herb scraps etc. to make homemade vinegar? So easy to make, and 1 less item to buy!

  4. Blue jay corn sounds so cool. My pink Hopi corn is this years corn experience but maybe next year I’ll try that. Those hydrangeas are lovely!

  5. Love the tour! Looking for a spot in my garden for the green stalk next year. Wondering what you put into your water. I need to drink more water and I think that my encourage me. Thanks!

  6. Love, this video. You reminded me I have a pack of those Blue Jade corn seeds. Do you know if its to late to plant them in our zone? I'm your neighbor in DC.

  7. Ooooo!!! I can’t wait to get a greenstalk or two!! Great job on the video and yay for happy tomatoes!!! I’ve never heard of mint jelly!! That’s interesting.

  8. Yay I got so excited to see your new video. You have soooo much stuff growing! Wow and all that basil. I would also love to see a complete view or arial view of your garden like another commenter recommended.

I didn’t get much from my garden this year. I made a lot of mistakes and killed a bunch of stuff as usual. I’m in the middle of moving right now, so I will be able to grow veggies in raised beds instead of just containers at the new place. I want to grow tons of basil like you did. 😜😁

  9. New Sub here…Hope to be a small homestead # self sustainable girl in the near future…kp the videos coming

  10. Love seeing your small space garden. I too have a container garden at my apartment. I have many herbs, strawberries, flowers and some garlic growing. My mom let me put a small raised bed in her yard and I have zucchini, tomatoes, more basil and peppers growing there. Thank you for inspiring us "in town farmgirls."

  11. There are so many city folks who truly need to watch your videos on gardening! I love it myself, and I love your videos, which are so beautifully made BTW!

  12. Beautiful video!! You included everything glorious about the summer garden 🤗 I wonder if I can make the mint jelly with my chocolate mint? Adding bluejay corn to next year's garden. Have a great wkd Cassandra 😊🌿

  13. Super good video ❤
This video is very helpful for us
    Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻
We will be wait for your next video .😍

  14. Just a thought while seeing your tomato plants coming to the end of the season. Tomatoes are perennial plants, as are some beans (runner beans I think). So if the roots can be saved in some way, it's not necessary to start off fresh each year. I haven't tried it yet.

  15. Oh my goodness girl. I've shared this video with so many friends who are just where you are. Thank you for sharing this beautiful and inspiring content. I do have chickens and a back yard garden but I'm also becoming a farm girl. I'm praying for you to get your farm. ❤

  16. Okay I need to know if the okra grew in the green stalk because in my little 4'x4' garden bed I grew 5 okra plants before I knew what they looked like. GIRL THEY WHERE TREES!!!! LOL 🤣 I only looked up how they looked up as first true leaves but I ate so much okra. I am loving your channel by the way you are giving me and my 1/3 acre so much hope and making me feel way less out there for being so gung-ho and making my own fertilizer and stocks and all the things I thoughts only my crazy self was doing but now with this YouTube community I know I am not alone 🙂

  17. Love, Love, Love. I have to watch your videos 2-3 times; you pack so much into each one. So wonderful what you’re doing!!
