Join me for six short videos on what I think to be the best tips for a new gardener.
Today, we talk about feeding the soil. Making compost.
Brown materials:
Cardboard, dried crop residues, dried leaves, newspaper, office paper, sawdust (avoid plywood or treated lumber), spoiled hay, straw, wood shavings and woodchips.
Green materials:
Animal bedding, coffee grounds, compost crops like comfrey, cover crops, crop residue, garden weeds – without seeds, grass clippings, kitchen scraps – no meat, bones or dairy, manure – not from dogs, cats or humans, and seaweed.
Just to name a few.
Look for tip 4 to come in a few days.

Good tip about chopping leaves up, thank you!
Hopefully I get to compost this year. It will take mine a little longer though as I found out I have beech tree leaves and they take longer but I'm patient..I'll wait. The end result will be worth it :-)👍
