First Garden tour of 2021! Spring has just sprung so there isn’t a lot of action in the garden just yet, so I used this as an opportunity to talk about some of this years garden plans. I talked about things like putting in new garden beds, relocating Petasites to make room for caladiums and impatiens and an area that will be well suited for a cut flower garden grown from seed. I did a small update or houseplant tour in my prior video so I didn’t want to be redundant and include all of those plants. The tropical plants and houseplants will be coming outside soon!

Hey 👋🏼. It’s been awhile, life gets in the way, as you know, but I couldn’t resist to comment. It might be nice to incorporate a dry creek bed where the bench is. Then you can plant around the creek bed with minimal plants. Can’t wait for all your plans, love your garden when it’s flush with plants. Take care, and get busy ☺️

Yippee!💚🙃Awe there she is💚🙃 Oh my gosh that orchid is gorgeous 💚🙃 I walked outside yesterday, got depressed and came back in💚🙃 Had a bird in the house today. I could here it pecking on the glass in the wood stove so I opened the patio door, opened the wood stove door it flew out landed on my air purifier and saw the open door and flew out. It’s the third one this year! One of them didn’t make it☹️ You have some great ideas for your spaces ,I can’t wait to see how they turn out. Good luck, and Thank you for another great video!💚🙃

Hi Jeff. Love your excitement over the plans I haven't gotten there just yet. And if you plan on getting new outdoor furniture be prepared for the sticker shock they are almost as much as indoor furniture. That hedge grew fast! Oh and ps I'm shocked I just looked at my rosemary plant that I did nada to except water it before I stuck it in my garage by a window. It's still alive that's a first for me. I'm happy about that.

Hi Jeff, thinking about your stone staircase and you were thinking of an arbor? Maybe a thought could be to place a nice sculpture there with lighting? Why not have a staircase that leads up TO something, it will be attractive AND create another piece of privacy. It reminds me of a space in a park in NCarolina that had similar lines. It is full of flowers plants and statues! You sure have plans this spring, good luck with your ideas!

I thought you were considering moving the Lespedeza back from the wall as well? I don't know how much light gets in that area but Nasturtium do well in crappy soil but they need a lot of light.

I love your energy and your vision! Where that bench is, I’m imagining a yellow or gold foliage ground cover that will brighten up that area without looking busy and competing with everything else. Something like golden creeping jenny. Or silver like brunnera jack frost. Just a thought.

Hi Jeff, loved the tour. I'm in 6b 7a, but I have very little shady areas.. for privacy,, I planted Leyland cypress they grow fast but, I planted them too close together. What about some pampas grass? Hostas get a nice flower that hummingbirds like. I also like barberry, they havethorns and get a nice color in fall. Might be too short though.

Hi, I was just thinking when you said that the barrel is going to the driveway, that the heat from the blacktop might/should help the leaves break down better it you want to use them for mulch/organic material. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Thanks for showing us that it's okay for things to not be a big spring blow out this soon. I just started planting in my yard last year and I have no idea what all will show up when. I'm in Il on the outskirts of STL so finding plant youtubers not in CA, FL, or TX can be tough lol

I live in zone 6B so I can relate to freezing temps and crossing your fingers plants come back in spring. Yep can’t wait to get my hands dirty. Plus so much cleaning to do from ice storms.

I like the idea to landscape the area where the old seat is. My biggest regret whenI bought my house and began landscaping it was laying down landscape fabric in some areas. It has become a complete nuisance and waste of money. Not only does grass just grow right on top of it (yes I used the thick premium stuff), but as the landscape has evolved I find myself ripping it out chunk by chunk. I've learned a good thick nice layer of mulch is perfect and prevents 98% of weeks from germinating.
Have you thought about blue point junipers? Dunno if they do well there, but here they are moderate growers and very blue, and dense. I like them. I have 2 that flank the front door in pots that have doubled in size in 2 years and grow in over 80% shade on the north side of the house.
The berm with impatiens and caladiums sounds like its going to be awesome!
Side note: If you like rosemary, have you ever tried Burts Bees hand salve? Works great and smells amazing!
Also, I love that dune grass. I planted blue dianella, but its not like that dune grass!
This was my happy place today as I was getting my 2nd COVID vaccine in my car. The person administering the shot told me to go to my happy place and guess what? I was already here! Thanks, Jeff, for keeping me calm today.
Most of our outdoor stuff is still alive despite the polar vortex. Only 1/7? crepe myrtles on the west side of the house is showing fresh growth so far, most of the crepe myrtles in the back yard are showing growth. The pecan tree isn’t looking good yet, nor are any hibiscus. The shrimp plant isn’t doing anything yet either. Our clematis surprisingly came back.
Got a bunch of cleanup to do after the downpour of rain we got, and 80 gazillion weed tree things need pulling. Actually, I may go put you on my phone and start pulling while watching. Then once the ground has more time to dry, I’ll start doing raking & cleanup of whatever the rain moved onto the patio. (Yesterday was pool cleanup…nasty mucky green water from the rain.

Hi Jeff! It's so much fun listening to the plans you have for this year. The BEST part about that is that you will be able to do everything yourself, which makes my heart happy! You will definitely be in your element doing all of the outdoor stuff. Hi Pumpkin, Toby and Buddy! You mentioned a new dog. Are you adopting one for yourself? I can't wait to see what you might get. Another Lab, or Lab mix, maybe. Your pets are all so lucky to have you. How sad learning about Grandma's glider. It sounds like maybe she passed away in her happy place, hopefully. I think that would give me the heebie jeebies though….. LOL! Are you planning on planting any more skip laurel for privacy anywhere else? It's so pretty and grew so fast. Someone said it was a bit of a mess but I say that is what grows into great success. Love your vision and work ethic. You are an inspiration to the rest of us. And I love finding the tropics in Missouri.
It's funny how different gardens are and how it effect how you look at plants. Overwintering oleanders oh my goodness! We get to 32 degrees and we have gotten to 15 but nothing has hurt the oleanders. I don't really like mine and I sure I am taking them for granted because they are so easy to grow here.
