Watch a tour of my herb garden here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyrvGh2EaqE

In this video you will see what plants I am growing in my front yard edible landscape! I recently began transforming this area so my edible landscape is not complete yet.

Welcome to my channel, Our Tropical Soil, where you can learn how to grow food in the tropics!

Front yards are often not very useful. Most front yards do not have an edible landscape and instead have an ornamental landscape, but guess what? You can totally have both because many edibles plants are also beautiful. This is what I am hoping will become of my front yard. I envision an edible garden that blends in so well that no one will even notice anything different. Before I add any plants to this area I want to make sure they meet my three requirements so that I can achieve my edible landscape dream. The first would be that they have to be perennials. Perennial species are easy to care for and don’t bolt and dry up, this ensures that the front garden will always stay tidy. The second is that they can’t be obviously edible. I define an obviously edible plant or tree as a species that people will walk by and quickly know what you are growing. I do not want to plant anything obviously edible because I want to prevent people from stealing our harvest. Lastly, I want to make sure I am planting beautiful plants! I hope that my front yard edible landscape will one day serve as an example of what is possible. I know that we can have beautiful ornamental landscapes and eat them too!

Thank you for watching! I post up a new video every week. If you are growing food in the tropics or have a food forest garden then join me on my journey! I am documenting this gardening adventure on youtube, Instagram, and my own blog. You can find the links down below.

  1. Stategically plant the lemongrass especially in your backyard to rid of mosquitoes.

I love peanut butter fruit. Yum!
