The truth about Neem oil. What YOU need to know!

You may not be using Neem oil although your product states neem oil. Start to check your labels to verify what it is you’re truly using and it may very well be the reason why we struggle with insect damage on our plants. Real name oil which is cold pressed is what you need to be using. Be sure and read the precautions and the directions on your mixing.

  1. The high tunnels are looking good! Love to see people growing a fall/winter garden. No one around here does(except me). What zone are you guys in? I’m in N. Alabama 7b. We had our first frost last night, 3 weeks early! I’m afraid it’s going to be a cold one this winter.

  2. Always got my Neem Oil as a cold-pressed pure oil, because I can't stop from reading labels on everything. That's why I have to add a drop of plant-safe soap to my mixture. If I don't add the soap, it won't stay mixed in the water long enough to even get it sprayed. The soap helps to actually emulsify the mixture for a short time, at least long enough to get it sprayed on my plants with a few shakes now and again. It also clogs up my sprayer less with the soap in it. The soap is supposed to help it stick to the leaves better. All I know is it works for me.
Things look to be humming right along over there! How are the chickies? I love listening to the baby fluff butts cheep. My happy place for sure!
    Hugs and best regards.

  3. Ma'am, thank you so much for this about the Neem oil. I have lupus. Something bites me. I have been going to the Dr over and over again to try and stop the biting. Nothing is working. So I wanted to see if Neem oil will work. Again thank you.

  4. Sadly, we must always read labels on everything! A friend just started reading food labels….bioengineered ingredients. Watch out.

  5. Thanks. I've never tried it yet. I lost a lot of kale to aphids though. Now they're moving to my broccoli, and I have a grandchild I'm raising who won't go near it if he sees a bug. Haha. Can't say I blame him. He has x ray eyes too. I've resorted to putting the broccoli in hot water for a half hour after I pick it to try and make sure there are no aphids on it. I'll have to try the cold pressed neem oil. Hopefully the grange co op has it. I'm fighting grasshoppers this year too. They are eating all the leaves off of one of my almond trees. Ugh! Here's some other channels I enjoy watching I thought you might like: Appalachia's Homestead with Patara https://youtu.be/Np0EQBW7_PE Deep South Homestead: https://youtu.be/utJ_1B-7KfM Whippoorwill Holler https://youtu.be/JTu_L0x5Pog (Love her recipes!)

  6. Oh my goodness! Thank you, Jill. I have the hydrophobic Neem oil and the aphids to prove it. That really irritates me. Not only have I wasted money, but I have wasted time and effort that I just do not have. I This is why I watch your channel. I appreciate the research that you do. There is so much to wade through online. As we often say in the classroom, "Teamwork makes the dream work".

  7. Oh wow I feel ripped off mine is 99.1% other ingredients wow! They ripped me off 99.1%! Wow no shame in their game! Well actually they ripped me off 100% because I have extract of neem oil not cold pressed so they 100%ly ripped me off!!

  8. I watched mark the weather man and he said we are fixing to get really cold weather across the country. I’ve moved everything I can into the tiny greenhouse. I’m in the high desert of Texas. I had a huge fight with Colorado potato beetles this summer. This fall it’s cabbage loopers. I have never tried any type of spray for my vegetables. Too scared of chemicals. I don’t trust any companies out there. I’ve been eating my homegrown veges and herbs for 2 years. Recently I bought some radishes and Brussels sprouts from the grocery store. Not organic. After cleaning the Brussels, my hands were burning. I ended up canning them anyway. I ate some and was up all night with a bad stomach. Then I had some organic cabbage and I ate 4 of the radishes with it. Again, I was sick. I ate just the cabbage the next night and I was fine. I’m no longer going to eat non organic produce. It’s poison. God bless you and your beautiful garden.

  9. Great info on neem oil. Me included, I bet a lot of people were not aware of different types. Thank you and God bless 💕

  10. I need to check my bottle !! I’ve struggled so bad this year. My peas are eaten up. So disappointed!! But I’m so glad you shared this.

  11. Aphids are literally flying into our garden. I’m in Corpus Christi on the South Texas coast and last week it looked like it was snowing. My brother and son started researching and found they are Asian Aphids. If we hadn’t seen them fly in I would have never made the connection to a different species of aphids. I have never seen them here before last week and they are flying in everyday. I live a few blocks from the ocean and I’m surrounded by the bay so it’s hard to tell exactly which direction they are coming in from. I use that brand of Neem oil 😁 and it works amazing. Watching my seedlings and doing my best as aphids have absolutely exploded and invaded South Texas. Thank you for sharing and showing this 🥰

  12. Husband just checked our Neem oil. It’s 100% cold pressed. Thanks for the info. We would’ve never thought to read the ingredients. I sure read food labels, hygiene products, OTC meds… Now we will read gardening products ingredients! Lol

  13. If there ANYTHING that we can use the junk neem oil for if we already have it on our shelf? I checked my labels and found I have a bottle of the cold pressed and a bottle of the other.😞
