DIY Landscape Boulders | How to make fake rocks

I made some DIY Fake Rocks to cover utility meters! It is really easy to make fake landscape boulders using plywood, metal mesh, and Quikwall Surface Bonding Cement. Faux rock covers for utilities are usually plastic and look super fake so using plaster is a nice upgrade and cheap! These landscaping rocks were made in 1 day and only required a few basic power tools.

  1. thats too expensive using wood and that wire. if u use close knit chicken wire and paper mache newspaper, put a brick in the base and paint when dry…its a great cheap boulder.

  2. Did you ever make a taller boulder to hide the pipes nearby? I didn’t see a video on your channel for it.

  3. Consider soaking a sheet or canvas in sloppy cement or mortar water mix and draping over a similar shape until it hardens. Then continue to add layers of cement “paint” to strengthen it…

  4. Make sure if you borrow a man's tin snips you don't use them on wire the man you borrowed them from might not be happy

  5. Too hard. Much easier to use mesh or chicken wire filled with polystyrene or paper or plastic then cover with cement. You can mould it to the shape you want. Put a bit of bondcrete to make it strong and help it last in the weather.

  6. Ya can use boxes to instead of plywood..bash the ox to your liking then use the steel cloth adhere with liquid nail.and do your process will make a killer Boulder and a. It lighter

  7. Put a sheet into quickcrette and lay over wood firm8…let dry paint&place
Could use poolnoodles2form boulder as quickcrette atop it will weigh piece down#won"t blow away

  8. Just make it darker so it blends in more . Looks pretty real..I heard Yu can chicken wire around tires and do this as well

  9. Not sure if this channel is still active but how much did you have in making that, dollar amount? It looked great!

  10. Quikwall is not designed to be used in this manner, so I would be careful building anything that someone would be walking, climbing, or hanging on. Its compressive strength is MUCH lower than typical concrete, although the flexural strength is higher (due to the fibers).

You have to love all the comments from people who said you should have done this or that. It is SOOOOO much easier to critique someone else's work than take the time to build it yourself 🙂

  11. The easy way i did it was with a plastic bag layed over other rocks or filled with trash then covered with concrete. Then use other rocks, spoon, fingers, anything to stamp in a texture. Finaly leave in water or covered with plastic 4 days to cure.
