Creating A Water Container Garden // May 2022

Creating a water garden in a container, with water lilies. To top it off, I put a solar fountain in the container to add interest. All the pieces were purchased at Lowes Improvement Center.

  1. What a great idea for a small space. With the addition of the fountain it would make a peaceful and relaxing setting.

  2. What a simple but beautiful idea for any size garden! Thank you for sharing! I already use solar fountains in some of my bird baths, but now I'll also try a water lily garden in a container like this. And such a pretty clip of the flowers blooming at the end of the video! 😊

  3. How fun! I got into container gardening because I ran out of room on my yard. I made a small wildlife pond last year and have learned a lot. I would suggest adding a "mosquito dunk" to that water garden so that mosquitos don't use it as a breeding ground. The active ingredient is BT and it only affects the mosquito larvae- so it doesn't hurt other wildlife or your plants. Can't wait to see your lilies grow! I ordered Nymphaea Odorata yesterday online – I can't wait for them to arrive.

  4. Thanks for sharing this awesome idea 🤗 Happy gardening from Durban, South Africa 🙋🏽‍♀️👩🏽‍🌾

  5. Oh how fun!! Water lillys!Lillys! That's a great idea!! As you know, I do container gardening and I'm having a terrible time with the squirrels digging up my flowers this year!! You may have found the solution to my woes! 😆
I could put water Lillys all over my little patio!!! I can't wait to see how yours does!!
    I'll let you know!!! 😊
    Edit to update.
After some research it seems that the flowers only last 4 days or so.
This is way put of my price range.
It seemed like a great idea at first.
Oh well. I can enjoy yours. 😉

  6. What a awesome idea!!! I do garden in containers but never thought of this! I'm going to have to be a copycat. Thanks Webster! Happy Memorial Day weekend to you and your family!! 🇺🇲✌️✌️ Shelley D.

  7. 🌼🌻🐝☀️🌺👨‍🌾🌸🌺 You are an inspiration to me. Im growing most of my garden in containers. I can see you put a lot of work and love into growing! The best part of gardening to me is you get to see the new growth everyday it brings me so much joy! It’s the start of my 3 year gardening but there is still so much to learn and I appreciate your tips, tricks and advice! I look forward to learning more from each other as we grow!

  8. Standing water is a breeding ground for mosquitos. Is the small fountain enough to disturb the water so as not to have it become a breeding ground for mosquito larvae?

  9. I have the same container and have been wondering what to do with it, now I know!! I’ve been making a pollinator bath from terracotta pots, gluing 3 of them together, then using a 14 inch terracotta plant saucer as the base and a 17 inch clear plastic plant saucer for the top. I just have to paint and add my stones and gems for the pollinators.. once I wrap that up, this will be next!! Thank you! Agree about the other comment regarding mosquito dunks, they’re at lowes too, and are a must, esp where I live! Thanks again for the great idea!! 😆

  10. Thanks for sharing! I like this idea a lot as I used to have a small pond in the backyard of my old house. I planted both water lilies and lotus flowers in my water garden and flowers were beautiful. Because my pond was much larger than this container, it required a lot of maintenance and upkeep. This idea of using a whiskey barrel planter is great in that it's much smaller and you don't have to dig any holes in your backyard. The solar water fountain is a splendid idea to keep the water moving to avoid mosquitoes that like to lay eggs if the water is stagnant. Thanks for sharing!

  11. hi sir what does that fountain run on? it's not plugged into anything nor is it solar powered…

  12. Wow! I didn't know Lowe's had a kit of lillys like that! I gotta go check that out! I wonder how long it'll take the lillys to grow and bloom? Thank you for sharing this with us, such a great idea!! BTW, if you look on the bottom side of the solar pump, there might be two holes you can tie a string with a weight so the pump stays nicely in the middle so you won't lose water when it goes to the sides. I did this to mine and I'm so thankful for that tip someone shared cuz man, that used to drive me crazy when it used to float all over the place and I'd have to be constantly filling water. Thank you again for this awesome idea!!!😁👍🤙🌈🌈🌈🌈🌟🌟🌟🌟

  13. Cool. Its facinating how different plants can thrive in such vastly differing environments.I have 1 aquatic plant in water in a container.

  14. Webster, what brand of solar fountain did you buy? I bought one (Gocheer) from Amazon that didn’t work very well at all. Charged it all day and it only worked sometimes, so I sent it back. Yours seemed to work straight out of the box!
