In today’s video, I get my container vegetable garden started. We also find some bees in out front yard, which is awesome, and a surprise ending by Kid Rogue.

  1. Container gardening is GREAT for urban areas, especially those with small spaces like apartment complexes. If you have a balcony, even a small one, you can do container gardening easy.

  2. Please let us know how the tomatoes turn out.
I've never had good luck w/ tomatoes in buckets. They'll grow for me, but they won't produce much.
But when I plant tomatoes in my raised garden beds, they produce more tomatoes than what we can eat. 🙂

  3. grow time here is just long enough to do most planting…..but i went and got a indoor grow tent to help keep them going during winter as well now

  4. Nice, we are planting our stuff tomorrow, we have some containers and some plain old dirt we will be planting in.

  5. I think that flowering shrub you have is Guelder Rose but it's hard to tell. My grandfather use to grow them as hedges. Thx for the vid!

  6. That galvanized tub is good for growing potatoes or you can buy what they call potato bags, a pot made essentially from a tarp with drain holes and have a velcro panel on the side to harvest them easily

  7. It's been -15 often or maybe warm like 12 degrees. Watching your adorable new garden and warm sun gives me hope that one day I can start my garden and not have the random frosty days murder my plants. What was the first food you've ever grown?

  8. Hard to believe that it's 85 there & here in northern Michigan it's in the 20's & 30's with a foot of snow on the ground still. We may be getting another few inches today. We have a river on our property that freezes over, we always joke about having icebergs still in July !! I was born in Houston, moved to Michigan as a child. I still have family there that I visit occasionally. We can't actually plant in the ground until after Memorial Day. I'm anxious to meet your new little one !!

  9. I can’t wait to start some bell peppers this week! That’s probably all I’ll have room for this year since we moved into an apartment 😕

  10. If possible, buy heirloom plants or seeds. That way when shtf, you know you can save seeds and have a crop next year. Thanks for sharing, keep up the good work!

  11. We have had good success with growing in containers. We have at different times grown tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, cabbage, lettuce, and onions in containers. We currently grow our herbs in containers, with exception of the ones assigned to help another plant in the raised bed. (Co-planting.) This year, we're going to try the zucchini and carrots in a container together. We grow our strawberries and thyme in a table bed.

  12. I have to start my garden but it still super cold in my neighborhood

But I am going to go buy all my soil tomorrow morning to start some stuff in pots indoors

  13. I need more planters, so THANK YOU for the tip about getting them from the dollar store. This year I'm getting heirloom basil from @Ethical Preparedness – at some point – and growing sweet potatoes, onions, and raspberries/blueberries. I also want to try romaine lettuce in addition to THE STAPLES, jalapeno and cayenne peppers.

  14. I wonder if I can have some success growing indoors. I live in an apartment community and we aren't allowed to have planters and such outside. I do have a room that gets a significant amount of light throughout the day, though.

  15. 85… i miss living in FL, here in PA, we have another couple of weeks if we are lucky before we can start planting (in the greenhouse to be safe.) I like the idea of rotation planting to get multiple yields throughout the year and not get, say, lettuced out. We ordered an everbearing strawberry plant from the kids at school, but won't be in until Apr. 17th. The good news is that, by then, the greenhouse will be up, and the strawberries will be safe. Trying some new plants this year, as well. I have done potatoes the last 2 years. The first was in a 4 foot by 8 foot raised bed. Last year was in a 2' by 2' potatoes tower. similar yields, much smaller footprint. This year, the potato tower will be in the greenhouse, and we will see how it does. Also curious as to how the asparagus comes up this year. I don't like it, but my wife does, so I am hoping it comes back. Can't eat any until next year, but then you never have to worry about it again.
