This is Just Like Overlord and I Can't Stop Laughing

I remember seeing Eminence in The Shadow having a crossover gacha game event with Overlord awhile ago. Now seeing how episode 2 of Eminence in The Shadow is, I can see why they were paired together. Ainz Ooal Gown and Shadow share very similar mindsets like the whole “SASUGA AINZ-SAMA”. If you are looking for a Overlord replacement, then you should definitely watch this anime!

  1. all remember from this from like 2 years ago reading the manga is that MC does something, That something is something much bigger than he thought, The MC is just too smart for anyone to understand. So basically a Ainz and Demiurge situation but with MC talking out his ass but the stuff he is talking about is somehow like classified information. Fun read from what i remember though.

  2. He dose believes it, but it just happens to be true.
But it's overlord fake to you make it plus saga of Tanya the evil god's will

  3. It's kinda the opposite… He lies, he knows he's lying and he fully commits to the lie because he's edgy… And then somehow his lie actually coincides with a real event that is actually happening.

  4. Cid doesn't kill any innocent people even though he is ruthless towards bandits and murderers, Ainz commits genocide against kingdoms like its nothing. You can't say Cid is more extreme thats nonsense. Ainz is basically Hitler while Cid is an anti-hero like the Punisher

  5. I'd say Cid isnt immoral tho bcz atleast he make sure to kill only bandits and even if he did lie,it wasn't to achieve some sick evil goal.

  6. I'd say one of the key differences is that this group of protagonists thus far looks like theyre trying to be heroes whereas bonedaddy does whatever is best for nazarick and trying to find players.

  7. I would daresay this is even better than Overlord. In Overlord, Ains is more or less letting himself be led around by his subordinates, as he haplessly tries to BS his way through day-to-day to fit their worldview of him.

Shadow on the other hand, already has a clear view of what he wants others to see him as, and acts out his persona accordingly to satisfy his own fantasies. He is the one who is doing all the bullshitting when he thought he made up the "Cult of Diablo", and his subordinates are the ones following his lead, and it just so happens that his bullshitting coincidentally perfectly aligns with the truth about the cult actually existing.

  8. I haven’t seen the show yet, but from the manga, everyone has terrible social queues. The amount of miscommunication throwing the plot forward is amazing!

  9. the anime adaptation skipped a bunch of jokes that were in the manga which made me sad other then that its a good show

  10. I think a good Isekai trend that I've been enjoying is: MC gets reincarnated but doesn't get memories of their past lives until they get a bit older

  11. Maybe I missed the point. He's obviously Chunibyo. He has a very active imagination. I think we are seeing what he is fantasizing. I doubt that much if any of what we see actually happens. I haven't read anything about it but that is just how it felt to me.

  12. Slight spoiler

Like as you said maybe because his sister can see through his bluffs, he literally regarded her as a pain in the a*s. And kind of avoid her😅

  13. 3:20 he called himself "a Stylish Ruffian Slayer" as in a Slayer of Stylish Ruffians… I don't think he was calling himself stylish.

  14. Believes his lies? No he doesn't! In this very episode he literally thanked the girls for "playing along" with his chuuni stuff!

I wouldn't say it's "just like Overlord" though, when you consider that this guy is playing around being an antihero who destroys imaginary (as far as he thinks) evil organizations, while the other guy is literally genociding millions of innocent people because he can't think of a reason not to genocide them. The leading an organization and "Sasuga Shadow-sama" is the only real "likeness" between the two.

  15. you are wrong lol he knows he is lying and thinks that others are just playing along with him

  16. It's not like Overlord. It's really good though but it's not the same. This one is more on the silly side because the protagonist thinks he is RPing the whole time while his subordinates and enemies are for real. It's more hilarious than Overlord though.

  17. Spoiler alert (probably not)
I heard that when he believes his lies his lies become the truth changing reality

  18. Spoilers: Nope, he absolutely does not believe anything he says.

Edit: On another note, I don't know where they're going with the adaptation. It feels like we're just listening to someone telling us a tale instead of experiencing the story for ourselves which is pretty upsetting.

  19. Disagree, Ainz is actually competent, the MC of emminence is a chuuni who is accidentally or coincidentally correct everytime he lies. He thinks the harem of girls he saved are just playing along with him, when in reality they are legitimately discovering a cult, which is what makes it hilarious. He even has scenes where he says (in his head, not out loud) he is thankful that they are playing along. He is legitimately strong, and he puts in effort, but he is 100% delusional, which is a satire on the whole isekai genre.

  20. The hook of this series is that he thinks he's acting chuuni, but he doesn't realize everyone thinks his acting and lies are real. Thing is his lies are actually the truth he just doesn't realize it.

  21. I haven't seen the anime yet but based on the manga, I would hardly draw a correlation from him to ainz. They're both stumbling into success yes but that's pretty much where the similarities end. Shadow is just an op total jackass just trying to live out his cliche isekai fantasies and all of his lies just happen to be true. Ainz is absolutely intelligent and calculating, he's just in a little over his head at times and just lies to keep himself afloat when that happens. His goals as of yet are just to protect nazarick and its denizens and use its power to help him hopefully find his comrades. Shadow doesn't give a damn about Shadow garden, he's dumb as a box of rocks just mad lucky, like he just made up a cult and it just so happens to exist in exactly the fashion he described when he made it up.

  22. Am I the only one who’s kinda disappointed? After not laughing at the episode, I went to the manga to see if I was missing something, and I found the humour was done way better there. The extra details he gives about the ways he trained back on earth was just great and I have no idea why they skipped that part. Also, when he gets lost in the anime, he just kinds looks back and admits he’s lost, but in the manga he strikes a pose while saying, with a smile on his face: Damn it! I’m lost! And I find that to be more entertaining. Idk, that’s just me…

  23. I lost it when Shadow whipped out the classic line “Playtime is over!” & instantly knew they were making a Sonic Adventure 2 reference 😂
