The Sunshine State itself can be described as unique and unusual, and its cranberries are no different. Florida cranberries don’t look like regular cranberries, but they taste similar and are the same color.
The fruit is part of the okra family with cranberry-colored edible leaves that can be used in multiple dishes like a Jamaican sorrel or a cranberry sauce for the holidays.

Actually the leaves taste more like cranberry. The leaves can be eaten in salads or added to smoothies. A very healthful plant.😊
This is called sorrel in Trinidad
It’s so different from the Nantucket cranberry when you see it like that.
And harvested differently too.

I pick and dry them every year then when I want a drink – put a handful in a measuring cup, cover with cold water, wait about 10 minutes and presto – you have Florida cranberry kool-aid. Needs sugar or make into jelly or relish or experiment. Full of Vit C.
