Hillside Backyard Living (Ideas)

Hillside Backyard Living Ideas

Hey everybody it’s Micah, the Outdoor Living Guy and I have such a treat for you. I’m very excited to talk with you about this job with its Hillside Backyard Living Ideas. It’s a start to finish . . . a home built in the early 1900s with a gem of a backyard. It has a bird sanctuary to attract wildlife and super fun landscape design. Let me introduce you to it – tah dah . . . enjoy some hillside landscaping ideas.

For those of you looking for sloped hillside backyard ideas, this video might give you a few. There are steps all the way up to the top of the house with many places to hang out along the way. If we start at the bottom of this hillside outdoor living space, we find a trampoline – a play zone for the kids – actually this entire lower destination is for the kiddos.

We also see gabion walls – a fun and functional way to retain earth and create interest right next to another hang out zone – a flat lawn on what used to be a steep hillside. This area was important for the homeowners, a lawn for the kids to play on to maximize space on a hillside. We also matched these cool old quarry walls and brought in the same element with river-rock we modeled into gabion walls. Add a built-in bench . . . and the oldies can watch the young ones having fun on the lawn as they nestle into the hillside landscape. By the way, the gabion walls become retaining walls for hillside landscaping.

As we move on up we come to a hillside entertaining space – a pergola as a destination. Another hillside backyard patio idea. Near the structure, a nice big pot stores a Grapevine that will grow to wrap around and take over this pergola. Crushed rock gravel creates another flat surface for the pergola patio and right next to it . . . planter beds. Corten metal custom made planters. Fill them with flowers or veggies and brighten up your sloped hillside landscaping,

Next: a hillside firepit living space just one flight up. We built this firepit deck into the mountain for a fun-&-fire pits stop. With built-in storage benches for wrap around seats, a mid-century modern firepit, and custom swing, this haven could not be cozier. Surrounded by plantings and offering a ringside view of the landscape and bird sanctuary it’s a little slice of heaven. Great idea that shows how to use retaining walls on a hillside.

Let’s keep moving up – there is more to see in this hillside landscape design. Bet you did not expect to see a ninja warrior deck. Well – hold onto your sneakers! Imagine the fun the 3 boys in this family have in this outdoor playroom with all kinds of ninja equipment.

Top deck is a view spot where the family can step out of the home and take in a spectacular view. Or take a seat and gaze out over the neighborhood through cable railing. A large dining table can host a gathering of friends and family before taking off down the hillside to enjoy individual favorite spaces.
