Come Spring bulb shopping, cosy rainy day garden vlog

In this week’s cosy rainy cottage garden vlog, I head to visit two garden centres to pick up some Spring bulbs and reflect on what worked well last Spring in the garden.

The first garden centre was Johnstown Garden Centre, and the second one was The Orchard Garden Centre in Celbridge.

  1. I’m so excited to add tons of hyacinths this year to my garden. Last year I bought only a couple dozen bulbs because I thought they had to be spaced very far apart according to the package directions. But when they grow up big and tall they started falling over. I read that planting them closer together keep that from happening. So I’m going to purchase lots of those. Thank you for the inspiration for other types of bulbs to try.

  2. I never think of spring bulbs because l spend all fall doimg leaves, starting in about the 2nd week of Sept thru Oct. I have done 3 rounds and need to go the fourth this week. Usually once l get them done the ground is frozen and we get snow.

  3. Nothing better than spring bulb shopping when the weather is so dreary outside! Those pink Muscari are gorgeous 😍
Aliums, Anenomes, Rannunculas & Fritillarias would be personal favourites! Roll on Spring & all the beautiful colours. Your flower beds are going to be gorgeous 😊

  4. I do the same about the little spade and fork tools but I love a reason to have a new one and they aren't that expensive. When you find the old ones give 'em a good cleaning and then hang 'em in the greenhouse as a decoration or spare for next time you can't find the newest ones.

  5. spray the handles a very bright color on all your little hand tools. You'll never lose them again.

  6. Hi Catherine, really enjoyed your video love a visit to a garden centre, hubby and l went today to pick up some daffodil bulbs and had a look round because all the Christmas stuff was out in our local garden centre, saw a lantern and a lovely painting of a hare, did not buy them but regret not getting them today, so definitely another visit soon, l picked up a couple of pots of cyclem and have put them in a hanging basket, we also have some in our garden they are so pretty, l will have to look out for geranium Janette as this is my full name, got me all excited lol, happy bulb planting xx

  7. Love the plant nurseries, always inspirational. Love your cute country garden and great bulb choices.

  8. Yes, I now must go to a garden center for Snowdrops, Crocus and Pink Muscari. Thank you for the inspiration.🤍💗💜

  9. Your bulb/ flower videos always get me excited about planting! 🤗 With the dull gray winter months ahead, it's so nice to have the hope of the spring colors to brighten our days 🌷⚘🌷⚘ Thanks Catherine 😁

  10. I just discovered your channel & I think I'm hooked! I live in the US but my great Grandfather on my Moms side came here from Monaghan Ireland, his last name was Monaghan, which was my Moms maiden name.

  11. I just found your channel yesterday and have so far already found MANY ideas I´m going to try. And you´re such a breath of fresh air Catherine it´s an absolute joy watching your videos🌺🌻😊

  12. Hello Ireland
check out a wee plant auger to attach to you drill. Makes planting bulbs a breeze!
Or anything else as well. Take care!

  13. Lovely
I adore Snowdrops..reminds me of my grandmother's garden
I'll be planting lots soon when I get my new forever home 🏡🌻🌼💜

  14. I bought my first tulip bulbs year ago at Aldi … They are still going strong 😁

  15. The selection at your garden center is crazy 😱 they all sell the same basic choices here 🙁 usually yellow, red and white tulips, daffodils… Nothing fancy. I have to get mine online so it gets crazy expensive 💸

  16. Sometimes I just listen to your videos while walking my dog Sugar, then rewatch for the visual later. I find your voice and talks so calming, even more enjoyable than the self help audios I listen to. Now I need to figure out how to juggle a cuppa tea and the dog leash while out, perfection! Lol

  17. Love ur videos. We are having a very wet spring here in my bit of Australia. I spent an hour scratching about in my little veggie patches yday, planting more coriander seedlings, pulling out the spent marigolds, weeding and staking up my tomato triffids. It was bliss !

  18. English and Irish garden centres are the best, especially at Christmas!!! Oakland nursery in Ohio are pretty good but they need a cafe!! Lol ❤️❤️❤️

  19. I love your bulb jaunt! I’m planning the ones that I want to plant this fall also! I used to forget my hand trowel, pruners, etc., in the weirdest places.🤦🏻‍♀️ Now, I have an old market basket that holds my gardening hand tools, my twine, scissors, plant markers, gloves, just everything I might need without having to stop and walk to the garden shed and back. Then when I go to my parent’s house or my sister’s house to work, I just grab my basket and I know everything is there ready to go! Have you ever tried lily of the valley? I love when mine come up and they smell heavenly!!! Thank you for taking us along on your field trip! 🌷🌷😉

  20. For your errant trowel, might I suggest a permanent springy cord that could attach to your gardening apron via a carabiner? I’ve seen UK mudlarkers use them for when they’re scratching at the foreshore looking for treasure, and the cord always means they are attached to the tool and won’t leave it behind.

  21. I love your choice of bulbs, Catherine! Such a lovely colour palette.🌸🌷🌺💛🧡💚

  22. I have 2 terracotta pots and wasn't sure what to do with them…thanks for the bulb idea 🌷🌷🌷😁👍
