Basic Gardening For Beginners Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Review / The Necessary Gardener #2

In this video we’re reviewing Family Dollar and Dollar Tree for some basic gardening supplies and tools. Both stores are great for your basic getting started gardening for beginners (i.e., water hoses, pots or pot substitutes, containers, seeds (fruit/vegetables/flowers), hand spades, fertilizer, and soil). Both stores carry an array of decorative items to place in your yard/patio/balcony/deck/porch/green house/garden, wherever you start your garden, whatever size, they have something nice to add.

We are starting our grocery store garden soon; That will consist of all the things we buy at the grocery store that can be grown at home, (i.e. peas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, green beans, squash, onions, celery, ginger, sugar cane, pineapples, etc.). Almost everything will be grown in containers; 5 gal. buckets and storage containers for easy transportation, when necessary. I cannot dig plots of land for a garden, it’s just too physically demanding, but I can figure out how to do what’s necessary to have a great garden without all the blah, blah, blah…

The way that things are shaping up in the world, I see a need to prepare some kind of plan if the basic necessities are scarce, or difficult for this old lady to get to; or it’s going to take a while for them to get to me. I’m not going to fare well in long lines, crowds of people shoving to get what ever may be available, or stored away in stadiums of loads of scared, angry, confused, people, and most of them will be younger and more agile than me. You know in these types of situations a lot of people will have an “every man for himself” kind of mentality. It just is what it is…

But, I’m excited about the possibilities, and looking forward to seeing how well this will turn out. Also, we will be investigating what types of trees we can grow in our zone (6b). If you do not know your grow zone, Google it using your zip code and you will get more information than you’ll know what to do with. Just get your grow zone information and get out, for now…lol
