Front Yard Garden

Regrading The Backyard // Smoothing Things Out Before Top Soil and Sand

We did some regrading of the backyard prior to adding top soil and sand. This is not the final grade because the top soil and sand will help get us there, but it is the final step before we do some irrigation and the final grade before seeding.

  1. I think that Toro should rename it the Dino. You handled it like a champ. Looking forward to the progress.

  2. Yea, you've got too much shade for bermuda and I think you figured that out. With that in mind, you could probably get away with some good ol' KY bluegrass, maybe some GCI TTTF. Can't wait to see what's up next!

  3. Thank you for sharing the video. I need to redo my entire yard as well. At this point I don't know what's going on. There's not one blade of grass left in my yard. When you rake it with just a plastic rake chunks of grass are pulling right out of the ground like the roots are grabbing on to nothing. So the grass is completely gone and now it is nothing but mud. It never completely dries and when it rains I literally sink down two inches. And to make it all even more fun I have three dogs. An 80 lb goldendoodle, a 70 lb goldendoodle, and a Jack Russell Chihuahua mix. I can't even express to you the amount of mud that comes into my house. There are days that I've just literally sat here and cried. Unfortunately I can't hire anybody because I'm on social security disability and I don't have one extra dollar a month to pay someone to help me with any of this. Last summer I was fortunate enough to find a little bit of topsoil on marketplace for free that I did bring in and dump in some areas to try and help with the drainage problems. I literally made trips back and forth with five gallon buckets transporting the dirt back to my house. I don't know what to do. I'm ready to have a nervous breakdown over the mud and trying to figure out how I'm going to tackle this project by myself being on SSDI and low income. Financially and physically I don't know how I'm going to do it but it's got to get done somehow.

  4. I’m in North Carolina and the red clay is a serious problem my backyard looks bad and is very unleveled than we have the forest that starts we own 1.4 acres but it’s all unusable and not even ideal to put a fence in until we regrade some of the lawn. Ideally I’d like to do it myself if possible to save money and gain experience. I’m a yard junky and get stand seeing it everyday.
