    Neil Tyson is assuming the nuclear weapons would all work properly. One or more failed bombs with partial explosion would cause massive fallout.

    Japan bombing is easy to answer. Japan lost their navy and airforce, but did not sue for peace. The US dropped an atomic bomb. Japan did not sue for peace. The US dropped a second atomic bomb. Japan finally sue for peace. A mainland invasion would have lead to the death of millions, a completely flatten country with no resouces. That would likely include a Soviet Union invasion, resulting massive death and starvation. Stripping all resources.

    Anyone who says nuclear war isn’t that bad has a 10 ‘ thick lead lined concrete steel reinforced, air scrubbed, filtered water, 30’ underground, fully stocked with food and home amenities with attractive women (or men) for company for 25 years. 😂😂😂

    So if the bomb hadn't been used in ww2, how do you think history would have unfolded if no one had witnessed the 2 atomic blasts over Japan? I suspect the Cuban missile crisis incident during the jfk administration may not have peacefully stood down. That and we'd probably still be living with Japan divided exactly like Korea. Nope Styx, I think you're tone deaf on the issue. More innocent Japanese would have starved to death in a drawn out blockade than from the bomb. With that said, I too am underwhelmed by Douglas McArthur handling of the emperor and Japanese War crimes. The Japanese got off too easy compared to Germany.

    Wrong on Japan. It did shorten the war. I had relatives that I knew that fought the war. They weren’t too thrilled at the prospect of having to invade Japan itself. iWork Jim’s and Okinawa drove that feeling home to them loud and clear. I respect what you say because you’re usually right on the money, it was the right decision. Peace ✌️

    What many sheeple don't get is that people like Bill Nye or Neil are science communicators more than they are "scientists." They're "edutainers," so to speak.

    And that clip blows my mind. He has a very outdated view of nuclear weapons. Yes, there are nuclear weapons that minimize radiation… But there are plenty that maximize it.

    Also, his credentials are in physics and astrophysics… Are we seriously supposed to pretend he's the expert on nuclear bombs??? I'm tired of this "PhD = Qualified in everything" BS. Yes, Neil has a PhD… But it has little to do with nuclear bombs. He's not the fucking professional here.

    Styx- The Japanese military was defeated so it wasn’t justified. The German army in WWI was also defeated, only problem was the German people didn’t think it was, that’s how we got WWII, they hadn’t learned their fucking lesson yet.
