  1. Another fun and informative video with Dr. A. I enjoyed the first one so much I checked out Dr. A's website and today received the books I ordered; Legends in the Garden , Of Naked Ladies and Forget-Me-Nots and It's Not Just About The Hat. Cannot wait to dive into them. Really appreciate your approach to gardening Jim and I incorporate many of your ideas into my zone 9b central Florida garden. Keep up the great work.

  2. You weren't exaggerating with your tease of Horticulture Rock Stars! But so down to earth and fun. Love the interaction and respect between you two.

  3. You guys are great. Love both of your gardens. You both bring so much fun and joy to gardening. Thank you.

  4. Planted my California palm in the front yard, grown from seed, maybe 5 years old now.
Sunshine Ligustrum is a meditative plant that can be focused upon indefinitely, lol.
Florida sunshine Anise is no slouch either.
    Enjoyed the gardening video ✌.

  5. Love this video with Dr A and you! Could watch for hours. Such a beautiful garden, a great way to garden. Thanks for sharing your visit.

  6. Trumpet vine requires a whip and chair to make it behave here in SE Virginia. I’d never plant one. I’m always pulling volunteer seedlings from the nearby woods.

I’m trialing Tecoma stans ‘Bells of Fire’ as a trumpet vine stand-in. It’s bushy, has the same flowers and leaves as trumpet vine, but not a beast vine. The hummies love it. ‘Bells’ is borderline hardy here in zone 8, but I’m hoping it’s a dieback shrub that recovers in the spring.

  7. It is because of Dr. A that I grew "Love in a Puff" and a spikey "Solanum!" His app introduced me to some really really unique plants that my whole family has gotten a kick out of! Wonderful to see him on here! 😀

  8. Thank you both as this was so informative!! I started using slinky toys on my bird feeders and yes the squirrels have left my birdseed alone!! FINALLY!

  9. Great tips. Fertilizing and pruning tips invaluable. I like the Doc's philosophy about gardening. Enjoy! Be Yourself! Do what you do! It's all good. Have fun.
Trumpet vine was more than this gardener could handle. I had runners 30 feet or more from base of plant.
Even after I removed it the runners showed up for a year or three. Many Thanks!

  10. Do you keep the trumpet vine away from your neighbors yard. My neighbor planted one and now I'm forced to deal with those runners😫😭

  11. your fertilizing comments seem strange. If you are feeding the soil and microbes, the plant growing is secondary.

  12. Love meeting Doc A.!! Jim so enjoying the adventures of gardening with you!! Thank you for your channel!! 🌼🌻🌸

  13. I laugh at the "know what type of gardener you are." There is a local gardener that has a very small garden, but she works in it everyday and there is NEVER a ratty looking leaf, because she not only deadheads and removes spent leaves on everything, she even makes sure all her sunflowers and tomatoes in each row look exactly the same with same amount of foliage. It is a tiny show garden….so not me, give me clown college!

  14. I had a gorgeous pair of Doves visit my garden today. They stayed for about 15 minutes. I posted a photo on Instagram x.

  15. Great video !It's a pleasure for me to hear your experience and your practical advices !😊😊 Thank you for sharing ! Big like and greetings by AJP Relaxing Jazz Piano

  16. Jim the pure joy on your face is contagious so glad you are happy and have found your way with this channel keep up the great work.

  17. Dr A…I love birds too. ❤️ at one time I had parrots for 20 yrs and that taught me to appreciate their intelligence. A gift from nature & God.

  18. You hit a nerve! I planted trumpet vine over 30 years ago and I still can't eliminate it. When Dr. Armitage said it's a thug, believe him, it is! Never, never plant it. Very invasive and destructive. Be sure you know what you are planting!! (Zone 6B, New England)

  19. I love to hear an expert who talks to the audience and not at the audience.

  20. Always good to see Allen. I haven't seen him since my undergrad years at UGA. I spent my lunches in the Trial gardens there. Good memories….

  21. Hey Jim,

If you get a minute I’d like to ask:
How can I transplant some lemons I have in a planter? They have all sprouted this summer and grow up about 5-8 inches up. Now what I’m wanting to ask is when and how to replant? I’m in zone 9b and winter is about a month out!

  22. Love Dr A, the hat is recommended piece of gear. At some point, the story goes that he gave 2 choices to his students — wear the hat or take a lower grade in his course. Very happy to see him enjoying his own garden! ❤️

  23. “New wood, old wood, whose wood?” Needs to go on a T-shirt!!! 😆 Good stuff, very entertaining, but informative.

  24. Wish I could send Dr. A a photo of my large backyard hoping he'd send me back some of his suggestions for shrubs and layout out here in Snellville, GA 30078.

  25. Some of the most beautiful gardens I’ve ever seen are in Athens GA. Dr A, your garden is beautiful! I’m working on a tiered cottage style garden with my three year ole who has found the most amazing love for gardening. There is nothing he loves more than taking care of his garden. We love your channel!
