DIY Flat Yard Drainage Project | Yards With No Slope

I will walk you through how I extended my downspouts 32 feet away from my home and installed adDry well to help drain water away from the foundation. Before I only had a 4-foot downspout extension, my sump pump was always running since the drains along the foundation would pull water out of the soil for days or weeks after a rain. 1. Never use corrugated pipe for drainage…. Too much debris can cause slowing and possible blockage of water…

  2. Your ground in a wet area like that should always slope away from your house.I would dig about a yard away from the house.Get writ off the grass and fill with gravel about a yard down.

  3. @Everyday Home Repairs — It is now about a year since the work shown in this video was done. How has the drainage system performed?

  4. I have the flat yard, and a spring under ground. I just bought this home. It was built in 1953 and the one's that built it {lol} lived there until this past November.

  5. The Brits refer to these systems as French drains. However you have to remember how little regard the Brits have for the French.

  6. Did you use a bottom panel on your system? It looks like you have to buy it separately. great video. Thank you.

  7. When flushing the y drain with a garden hose, won't all that debris just get stuck in the 10 gallon well??

  8. I don't get it. The water is just going to fill up in that well, then it will overflow once that happens. It should drain into the street

  9. I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)
Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah 55:7)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (Psalms 34:18)

  10. Very similar problem with my property and also i have bit high water table. Appreciate really your advise.

  11. A tip i leared on filling in trenches is to use a garden hose as you fill back. we try fill about 1/3 of the trench then fill it with water and use spades to break up clods, work them up and down like you are getting out air bubbles in concrete, fill another third repeat and then top it off with last bit of dirt, spasde it again. you are basically making mud. then when using the spades up and down you are compacting it, then lay they sod on top and press in with rake and then tamp down. once tapped down and water has drained off clean the dirt off the grass with a spray nozzel, a few days later you cant even tell you were there. Love the video, always good to learn something new

  12. Could you use the aluminum pipe in the trench into a hole filled with gravel? Would that work too?

  13. if your down spourt drains toward your house, try changing it to another corner where the slope leads away from the house.

  14. geez, why are you not thinking about a rain garden instead of another soak away? This is your opportunity to fix your drainage and save the planet too.

  15. Can you discharge water onto the street?I notice a lot of people in my neighborhood run the pipe to the street

  16. All that corrugated pipe doesn't do well in REAL COLD climates. It will ice up solid and break in just a few years
I had to remove a 20 ft long section with an axe last April as it was frozen solid 15 in below the surface it lasted 10 years tops. Drainage pipes on the surface are unattractive but most effective.

  17. Why? No slope is irrelevant. If u ran it that far from the house why not just use a normal size catch basin at end of discharge because as long as the discharge end is lower than the inlet side at the downspout then it will overflow at end via grate or pop up emitter as it should and permeate into the ground. All you are doing is prolonging the permeation process using a well that large which WILL be overwhelmed within minutes in a good downpour. The amount of work u put in on a basin that size doesn’t even make sense. Also that’s going to hold water longer after it’s permeated enough it will stink like shit in your yard. Watch and see

  18. We learned a lot you are doing great job, can you show me how to do small septic tank system for a small cabin thanks.

  19. I'm 70. If I do this myself, can you contract someone who would only dig the hole?

  20. Sump pump system to day light go under the sidewalk inches away from the street away from the property for good I had the same problem at my house 🏡 called 4 drainage contractors it seem I knew more then them from a lot of research 🔬 on line n they wanted 10 grand⛈they all said the same thing after we get done u will need to hire a landscaper to rake it n seed it 🤦🏽‍♂️more money 💰 I decided to hire a few guy’s to dig the 100 trench I did the rest by my self All in with materials n laborers 4 thousand n u can’t tell any work was done at all 100 foot French drain a few catch basins n sump pump system to the street 🎯💯🤙🏽

  21. Good luck with that system in real hardpan clay soil. Just put a pump in and send it to the street.

  22. Does the landscape fabric cover the pipe does it go underneath the pipe and you add rocks and then cover the top with the fabric and then add rocks again.?

  23. How does the pop-up work how deep does the water have to be can a pop-up work with just straight off the hose the pipe I mean

  24. This video gives me hope. Some big named companies want to do expensive encapsulation or their patented drain systems that are equivalent to a car note. Considering my home is old and has buried drain pipes (probably old and broken), I would much rather give this a try instead of spending thousands. Plus I have those annoying drain flies, which I'm sure are coming from the crawl space and water entering/backing up. 😬 Thanks for sharing this video.

  25. I have a french drain that is used for drainage from the basement sump pump. The problem I have is the ground is settling around it forcing the drain to not be level with ground and pitching the catch basin inward forcing the water to settle around it and a tripping hazard. Any ideas for correction?

  26. Why not just continue the trench and pipe all the way to the street, get rid of the rainwater permanently? You're already halfway there 3:33.
