Front Yard Garden

DIY Privacy Landscaping | Emerald Green Arborvitae | Landscaping Makeover Idea

Fence Video: https://youtu.be/uKkAVXCh9UA

This DIY project was the last step in the 2 year renovation on my side yard. I share the progress that I have made over the past 2 years. Trees were cut down, stumps removed, french drain installed, fence extended (https://youtu.be/uKkAVXCh9UA) and now the landscaping is completed.

In this video I share how to create privacy using landscaping. Using Emerald Green Arborvitae, tall grasses, hostas, rock, and mulch I complete my landscaping makeover. I really believe this is a project that most people can do it yourself.

I used the Emerald Green Arborvitae because it does not grow to be as large as other types like the Green Giant. These trees should only reach a max height of around 12 to 15 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. The way that I have planted them they should never touch but will add a lot of privacy. Then the tall grasses were planted in the open areas and will also help provide privacy. They will grow to around 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide. I then used large boulders to break up the hill and add texture and different colors. Some rocks I dug into the hill and others were placed on the surface. Other plants include hostas and a smaller juniper.

Overall I am very pleased with the results. I believe in the next few years this area will continue to develop and look even better. I’m also curious what you think, leave it in the comments below. Thanks for watching!

  2. Looks great, but don't be afraid to plant something that flowers besides the hostas. There's lots of greenery and rocks in the world. Add the color. Thanks again for the video

  3. Really nice great effort to get the look you wanted the only thing I believe it’s better to take the burlap off of the roots of your emerald greens

  4. How did one guy take down all those big trees? Did you have a bucket truck and what happed to all the waste?

  5. Great video. I'm doing a very similar project. Liked the camera angles, instructions, and lack of filler talk.

  6. Update please! Would love to see how it looks now that it's about a year later. I'm also wondering how the hostas fared since I believe they prefer shade areas

  7. Did you remove the burlap from the root ball before planting? Looks like you left them on…like the design and all the work you did. I’m curious to see how they will in the space as time passes

  8. The rocks are cool. Good job. There is a dwarf version of the thuja green giant. That’s what I went with. It’s called baby thuja.
On inside i would add color. Something yellow, res, purple, etc.
    Good job

  9. What type of hosta it is? I'm trying to find a hosta that can handle sun.

  10. Emerald green arborvitae die every time I plant them no matter how much time I spend on them. zone 5 Montana
