  1. I bought a pot of these last year and I simply love them. They had blooms on them when I bought them and they continued to bloom every day till first freeze. My question is this: I did nothing for them through the winter. They are planted in full sun. I live in central Arkansas and am in zone 7. I didn't cut or trim them down and they turned black with the winter cold. Which hardly ever gets below 30F. I tested the brittleness of the limbs. They seems very brittle, snapping easily at the ends but about mid way on down they seem pliable. They will bend but not break. Will this clump of petunias come back to full growth? Should I trim them about mid way or shorter to promote the new growth? My first time (last year) dealing with them and I really want them to come back. Thank you so much for the tips on the seeds and young shoots. That was very helpful. Happy Gardening!

  2. I also am in love with this plant. I have them in a pot and really didn’t know much about them… they have come back now 2 years … hoping again for this summer, I’ll cover them better next winter if they do come back. I’m in zone 6.

  3. How much this plant cost ? This plant grows over in our backyard i thought its just weeds cause there are so many of them, it has pink and lavender color of flowers

  4. Hi! I was given a huge Mexican Petunia plant that is in a huge pot. It’s got white dried up leaves that look “chewed”, if that makes sense. But it also has new green growth on it. I live in Arizona and it’s been over 110 degrees here. Is it getting too much sun or do you know what the problem could be?!

  5. I have them on my back under mostly shade and I notice that the leaves are curling with some white areas.. any advise.

  6. I just purchased from online store and not received yet the pink and white version and I guess it's both a tall type. Do you think if it's too tall in pots, can we prune it to get more bushy?

  7. just added this plant to my collection. it is in full sun… hardiness zone 11a according to Google… even though I m feeding it regularly the leaves are almost white/transparent with lots of veins showing. and the flower is best in the morning. by mid-afternoon it has already fallen off the plant. (N.B. I have another one which is in a shady location and its leaves are longer and super green.)

  8. What is your suggestion for winter care of Mexican Petunia in Central Texas. Mine is planted in the flower bed and 6' tall. Should I cut them down… fall or spring… maybe to about a foot?

  9. Ours root from the stalk once they get so tall that they fall over, and will grow new plants all the way down the stalk, and it spreads like a weed. Our pink ones have narrower, darker leaves but the flowers are so much smaller than the purple that we have.

  10. did anyone here know who identified this plant (person) just for project purposes. please help me. thanks.

  11. Omg I live in Trinidad and my mom has the white, pink and purple. I always wondered what was the name of the plant. It has just taken over the yard. It's pretty

  12. Had some little cuttings planted in large pots through the winter doing fine til our Texas freeze wiped them out. I now have some seeds to start over this week! Hope they do what they are supposed to do as I love this purple plant!

  13. I have one stalk. The stock has small round black nodes the entire length of the stalk. What are they?

  14. I just put in water after cutting off my plants these root so easily . I've replanted rooted cuttings a bunch of times to make new plants and it flowers daily. I live in South Florida.

  15. I live in south east Florida, this is my first year experiencing the Mexican Petunia Plant. I have the tall variety, which I love so much.
My question is, do I need to trim the height down for the Fall and Winter? Also, are the susceptible to parasites?
    Thank you!

  16. I have the tall ones planted in the ground. They did ok at first but not so well now. I'm in S FL they're in full sun. There's mildew spots over them and they lean. Anyone can advise what I need to do to save them?

  17. When I was a little girl, me and my cousins would get the seeds when they were dry and put them in our mouth, and would chuckle when the popped in our mouth. 😂 I wonder if anyone else did this as kids.

  18. Hi, I just planted one of these (Phoenix) a week ago and the bottom leaves are yellowing. What might cause this?

  19. Tips are not quite brown, but greenish. Curling and crunchy.
    What am I doing wrong?
Full Texas sun, mixed soil with compost from pictured horse in profile picture, sand and gumbo/kaleechee mud🙄 i give her a good swig when she's thirsty.

  20. I aquired one of these from a friend who didn't know what to do with it. It was still in the green cubicle nursery pot with the little white plastic nursery identification tag with a small picture and some brief info on it. I just potted it up in a terra cotta pot with some regular all purpose (Ferti.lome) potting soil along with some root toner, watered it and sat it out on the patio. We're at the end of July 2022 and I'll wait to see when it'll bloom. If I'm thinking right, it will probably be in a few days after it gets over the transplant shock. I know they're not related, but the flower itself kind of reminds me of a bluish purple version of a small hibiscus! Since I control its water, I'll just follow the general rule of waiting until the soil is almost completely dry before I water it again. 😉

  21. I have a few questions about my Ruellia. I'm not seeing seed pods. When do they come on? In the fall can I cut down the tall stems down low? I also live next to a field that has a lot of grasshoppers. They seem to like their leaves and I don't know how to deal with them. I live in Arizona, about 3500 feet in elevation. How do they do in the winter?
