Inside Carlos Garcia’s Charming 17th-Century English Country House | Design Notes

Interior designer Carlos Garcia welcomes us into his 17th-century English country house in Norfolk for our latest episode of Design Notes. Carlos begins by talking about his fondness for country house decoration: “ English country house decoration has always been something that has attracted me, even when I was living in Spain. When I came to this country, I started visiting National Trust properties and other private houses… And that ignited my love for this type of decoration”.

After talking us through his interior design inspiration, Carlos takes us through the rooms of his house, each decorated with objects full of meaning and memory. An expert on layering fabrics, Carlos explains the warm, colourful schemes he has created in his drawing room and bedroom, while also considering the importance of proportion in the ‘cottage rooms’ of the house, such as the kitchen, and the grander areas like the hall and dining room. Watch the full episode of Design Notes with Carlos Garcia, as we tour his historic country house with its textured, characterful interiors.

  1. This is an absolutely delightful little house, with enormous charm! Thank you for this tour.

  2. Oh my gosh…I love it! So inviting and cosy. I love the fabrics and colours. It feels so sumptuous and comfortable. I am not usually a fan of four poster beds I find them over powering… but this is the first one I really like! It is fabulous! It is all just so homely, full of style. Everything works with everything so well and it is a treat on the senses, everywhere you look there is a wealth of interesting things.. I love the way it is done, not overdone or 'busy' just rich and cosseting. Full of lovely things and yet not untouchable if that makes sense, you feel it's perfectly ok to sink into the cushions and just relax wherever you are in the home, have a read, have a drink and enjoy food. Really getting the vibe from this place ❤️Thank you for sharing your lovely home and the thoughts behind the style. I thought it was really cute seeing one of the whippets under their blanket 😀 it's definitely a home full of love and care. Just gorgeous ❤️🌹🙏🏻

  3. This is my absolute favourite house on IG and I was hoping that you would eventually feature Carlos and his incredible space. It’s a joy

  7. This tour was a real treat! I smiled through every room reveal and loved seeing the pups make themselves at home. Thank you for sharing this one.😍

  8. One of my favourite houses (and people to follow) on IG. I always look forward to seeing the flowers and geraniums. It was lovely to hear Carlos speak about his inspiration. “It takes an enormous amount of busyness to make a room feel calm” – absolutely love this thought. Thanks for sharing this wonderful home.

  9. The bad : his shoes , that yellow chair & the rather pinched ( nickel & dimed) feeling guest bedrooms.
The good : absolutely everything else
