This is one of the rare Japanese gardens that highlights the cherry blossoms, or sakura. It is Chikurin-in, Gunpoen in Yoshino, Nara prefecture.

Nara tends to be a day trip for visitors from Kyoto but I urge you to venture a little further down to the Yoshino area to explore unique Japanese gardens and mountains full of cherry blossoms.

This Japanese garden explodes with color in both springtime and autumn with the fall leaves. Have a look at this video to get ideas for your own Japanese garden design or DIY garden project.

  1. I just found your channel, and it’s awesome! That’s an interesting reason why they don’t incorporate cherry blossoms into Japanese Gardens. It seems like Bamboo would be incorporated in a similar manner, towards the back of the garden. But it has year-round/ multi-seasonal interest, so its theoretically more useful, and the running types can be rhizome pruned for containment.
