Jamie Durie is set to become a property developer after buying into an architectural consortium which plans to build a $70 million luxury hotel estate in Tasmania ‘I’ve always wanted to develop things with integrity in my own country and, post-Covid, with Australians wanting the stay home, it seems it’s the right time to do it,’ he told the Daily Telegraph. He has become an equal partner in the firm with financier and hotelier Dominic Lambrinos and investment banker Kim Jacob. The trio purchased a 110-hectare former tulip farm for an unknown amount on the northwest coast of Tasmania at Table Cape which overlooks the Bass Strait. Durie said he ‘fell in love’ with the region 15 years ago when he flew over it in a helicopter. Jaime is believed to have revised the plans a number of times ‘Separately council have asked me for more information on a garden built three years ago,’ he added. ‘I built the rear garden first to allow the native vegetation to grow in before we demolished and excavated the house because that’s the most environmentally responsible thing to do.’ Jamie is planning to transform his waterfront lot at Avalon Beach by knocking down the 1960s four-bedroom cottage. A move heavily criticised by locals. The TV star, who has planted 2000 native trees on the property, has dismissed the latest complaints as a case of ‘garden envy’. ‘Separately council have asked me for more information on a garden built three years ago,’ he added. ‘I built the rear garden first to allow the native vegetation to grow in before we demolished and excavated the house because that’s the most environmentally responsible thing to do.’ Pictured here with partner Ameka Jane
