Legal analysis: Deliberation continues today in Darrell Brooks trial

A verdict is possible Wednesday in the trial of Darrell Brooks, as jury deliberations began Tuesday. Those deliberations will continue at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, when jurors will continue looking at all 76 charges Brooks is facing, including six intentional homicide counts. Each homicide count carries a life sentence. Brooks is accused of killing six people and injuring dozens by driving an SUV through a Christmas parade last year.

  1. all it takes is one, the first thing that came to my mind was Casey Anthony – I'm very nervous; you never know what a jury will do.

  2. What's there to look at? He did it plain and simple…intent or not. Guilty…life in prison. Period.

  3. There's no way a good jury will allow this joker off the hook. He did it. Now after his face clawing infuriating antics and disrespectful rhetoric he needs to pay the price for both. Shameful piece of work. Sad that we have to tip toe around criminals in order to keep them off the streets to reoffend as he did. Lock him up.

  4. If the jury does not return a guilty verdict, I will lose all hope in humanity. Forgiveness is not intended to enable repeat offenders with a history of intentionally reckless and unrepentant abusive behavior. Forgiveness is not seeking vengeance, but allowing a higher power to determine one’s fate in the face of consequences. That is what the victims are doing. The jurors have a far different role. They are the higher power, the finders of fact. That is all. They have a duty to the community to uphold the truth. It is the Court, the Judge, who has the power to grant mercy and forgiveness in sentencing.

  5. Brooks’ emotion was all show. He knew exactly what he wanted to produce to get the result he wants. Just think of how he has been a constant agitator to the judge. He is a master crazy-maker when he wants, and manipulator at other times.

  6. Brooks didn't become "emotional". That was a total act put on by Brooks. There were no red eyes–which happens when people cry tears-and there was not one drop from tears on his face or anywhere around his eyes. Brooks is nothing but a knave, a fake, a liar, a psycho.

  7. Of course he missed the mark, because narcissists will find any angle to play the victim from. Brooks said his conscience was clean and basically told the jury it is their responsibility if his kids grow up with a deadbeat dad. He’s despicable

  8. Brooks- feels sorry for me… just like he was able to bail out of jail with a very low amount to commit 6 murders and over 70 assaults/ injuries. It’s well past the time to feel anything for him. All who had a hand in allowing him to walk the streets are just as guilty as he is for committing the crime. Let’s get back at cleaning up our streets and keeping communities safe.

  9. I can't believe the nerve of him to talk about his children after he killed so many, including a little boy who was the same age as his daughter.

  10. DB needs to go back to school. He clearly doesn't know the difference between motive and intent amongst other words in the English language. He's learning new words in his favor. If he was remorseful he would have apologized to the victims in the beginning. If I lost control of my car I'd crash it into an object not a whole parade of humans. If you hit a person by accident you stop, get out of the car and try to help. All he does is deflect.

  11. I thought Brooks with his closing arguments was trying to plant some doubt on the jurors. It only takes one juror to get that accomplished, but I also believe as a whole, the jury will find him guilty.

  12. What is so hard for " It" to understand n? EVERYTHING THAT IS SAID IN THE COURT ROOM IS ON A RECORD ! WHAT THE JUDGE DECIDES IS IF IT IS TO BE BROUGHT UP TO THE JURY, UPON THE Relevance OF WHAT IS SAID !! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE GUILTY VERDICT !! IT'S JUST TOO BAD THAT THIS STATE DOESN'T HAVE THE DEATH PENALTY !! TRUST and Believe if he got out someone will give him STREET JUSTICE !!

  13. You are a liar Daryl Brooks you are something you scrape off the bottom of your shoe you are the lowest of Lowe's you try to hide behind the Bible you say that everyday you wake you live by the Bible if that was so you would have stopped your vehicle when you hit the first person in the parade but you are a lying dog lower than the bellies of a worm you are a murderer and now you will have to crawl through the feces of your life

  14. Throughout this entire trial he didn't shed not one tear for the people he killed, he showed no sorrow for the many families whose life he changed. Even if his car was having trouble with the brakes or some other mechanical problems he still showed no compassion
or guilt in any way. 6 people are dead because of him and or his car and he's only concerned about holding his new baby . Disgusting at it's finest. I can't wait to hear the verdict and sentencing.

  15. When he gave his closing remarks he mentioned the car being recalled because of throttle problems so he pretty admitted he hit the people but tried to blame the car,,,

  16. Hate to say it but Darryl Brooks would make a better lawyer
than most people commenting on here. No doubt…….too
bad he wasted his life and will rot in prison.

  17. What if they decide they don’t believe it was intentional? I feel like they will find him guilty of the reckless homicide charges. His behavior in court was just insane, but I’m concerned about that “intent.” I expected the jury to be done deliberating by 8pm last night. Asking to see exhibits, etc. means they are really going to look at this closely and examine the evidence to determine if his actions were intentional.

  18. This man is selfish this man has no empathy. This man has no care for life. This man is a Jackass. He's going to prison for life….every1 knows it even Johnny Cochran couldn't get this man out of going to prison that is how dirty this man's hands are

  19. Deliberations continue? This should have been the shortest deliberation in the history of trials.

  20. It's sick that Brooks says he has a clear conscience!!!!! And 99% of his closing argument was all about him!! And he doesn't spend time with his children. IMO the new baby will be well served having no interaction with him. The jury is to find guilty or not guilty nothing to do with forgiveness! And with the cars that had the acceleration problem, which his did NOT, the brakes worked just fine!

  21. The prison staff and inmates are gonna love Darrell.
