My books and videos are all grounded in what I actually do, I make sure you can see the evidence. For example if I suggest sowing carrots in November, take a look at my monthly tours to see them growing and my harvest videos for May to see the actual results. I’m not just about regurgitaing information from the backs of seed packets!

Just because all my resources are ‘free of charge’, to everyone, doesn’t mean they aren’t good quality. My objective is to make sure that there’s no need to be rich to get access to great gardening information. I do however have a lot of costs to cover and my time is valuable to me, so please consider supporting me at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/steverichards

  1. Great information, I've got my pots ready for sowing the other day so will sow them now. Been waiting for the video. Got to remember to sow more in march.

  2. Great idea to get early carrots. The only snag is I don't have a polytunnel, greenhouse, etc. Is there any way I can still start carrots off now in containers 'maybe put them under carport or in the garage for extra protection during cold periods?

  3. Thanks Steve, I just planted one pot on the off chance, as I remembered you had some in the tunnel last winter. I'll pop another pot in today.

  4. I've never considered trimming the carrot tops before so this video was brilliant for fine tuning my winter carrots.
    Another great update😊.

  5. Hello Steve, I've never thought of sowing carrot seeds in November, Mind you I've never had much luck growing them before.
I've just filled two 12" deep planter troughs the way you did & will get some carrot seeds started shortly, I find this time of year a bit sad when the greenhouses are empty & I've been itching to get something on the go besides onions & garlic, Thanks for the advice.

  6. Another great video Steve, I don’t have a polly tunnel but will be growing in 30 ltr pots, fingers crossed I might get a few carrots unless the snails get to them first!

  7. Hi Steve I have 4 bags of topsoil in my garage and wanted to sow some carrots tomorrow! I was going to rake it into my lawn. Im using for carrots now. Oh and my weedy compost is ready.👍🎃🙏

  8. Such good tips, obviously borne from your experiences. I have a couple of round containers I sowed a few weeks ago which have germinated well, and I will take them into my greenhouse over winter now. I wasn't sure whether to leave them out but after watching this, definitely not as they will get pretty wet. I will also try sowing a box of carrots now for later on, as I have just unearthed an old plastic toy box after clearing my shed which is the perfect size. Just need to drill some holes and add the compost. What a great idea re trimming the carrot tops, it makes so much sense, all that green growth is perfect protection for the slimy little beasts. Thanks Steve 🙂
