The Future Of Gardening: Complete Automation! (Garden Talk #37)

In this episode of Garden Talk, I interview Simon Romanski, the creator of the Plant Studio. He talks about the future of gardening – complete automation. Simon has developed a way to just about completely automate things so you, the gardener, can be hands off – most of the time. What plants do you like to grow? Tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, potatoes, let us know in the comments section below. If you enjoyed this video please click that thumbs up button 🙂

  1. Even with automation there is always going to be something for the grower to do. Automation just helps with the repetitive tasks. We are obviously big fans of automatic growing systems 🙂 Keep up the great work!

  2. I live for your podcasts Mr. Grow it, I find myself casually consuming ALL of your podcast content everyday at work, please keep them coming man!

  3. Outstanding information. Thanks Simon for your time and knowledge and as always you're killing it Chris, absolutely hands down most informative show out here

  4. Sounds appealing in theory…. but where is the proof of concept?
"Growing for a few years"… and has tried every growing method. Sure.
Everything he says is basic and of little substance.
The words "get", "rich" and "quick" come to mind.

  5. Love the content. Great job on bringing great knowledgeable people for us to learn from. Curious though to what this plant studio room cost. Sounds extremely pricey! Shipping alone would break me.lol! Love the idea of automation in the garden. Just wish that all the good tech wasn't so far out of reach financially speaking.

  6. Crazy you worked in an FC for 8 years man! I've been within AMZL for 6 years now, Field Quality manager out of a delivery station.

  7. Correct with automation there will always be hands on to maintain environmental parameters, I'm working on my own system ,ill be in touch great job Hello from upstate ny

  8. Sounds expensive. Having a former sales career, I would ask what is the market for this device? It can be the greatest thing in the world but without a market it will fail. It's like a mini commercial grow in a box. Most home growers are not going to spend that coin for a system like this. The market is basically lazy, fairly wealthy, home growers. I feel like that is a small market. Great idea and system but it needs to be affordable to open up a larger market.

  9. We need something affordable to control grow rooms/tents. A simple LED light controller/timer is over $200. Crazy… Im using a TrolMaster Hydro-X, but the things you really need to control and monitor are only available in the "Pro" model costing over 2 grand… smh… I've been working on a system using a Raspberry Pi, stay tuned…

  10. Love your channel brotha ive learned so much from you an your channel much appreaciated

  11. Hey I just want to thank you for the info as I’m new to growing and iv watched a lot of your vids and a lot of others and the one I can’t find is someone using led full spec and led red/blue spec do you think their would be any benifit

  12. I wish it could automate everything to stay at a desired VPD setting with a choice of using temperature or humidity to achieve it.

  13. Watching humans hand over their lives and culture to convenience. Our grandchildren will not know how to grow a plant without a "Plantomatic 3000".

  14. Chris you are very inteligent and make great shows. Thank you sharing your knowledge. Not Steven Hawking but up there amoung the gifted.

  15. I’m not hating on this mans invention want to get that out of the way. I think it’s awesome what he came up with. But at the same token Neptune Apex, we use this to monitor saltwater tanks. Check PH, salinity, temp, can set it to turn lights on and off. Set it to do things automatically such as turn a fan on at certain temps or a chiller. Also can set it to auto dose and auto water change. Daily on schedule if you would like. All from a app on your phone. Will also alert you if anything is out of spec like if you lose power or taking to much power and will even let you know how much your spending a month in electricity on your tank. So why not just so that to grow with ?

  16. I don't think you need a dehumidifier for a CMH , MH or HPS ..led sucks you need a veg light and a flower light.. they don't have very good like Spectrum control so I would have the chill 1000 turn down the 750 with an mh on an angle of that chill or the hps and play with my light spectrums more red and less blue hps or more blue mix with MH. But the last 3 weeks get very interesting mh with cmh Philip's 3100 plus 4200..and uvb..
Here's one I'll try and if it goes good I'll let you know I will pick one plant and separate it and I Will Blast it with UVC for a couple minutes a day.
Don't-try-this-at-home kids it will kill anything and everything in the room

  17. You should get a light spectrum meter and try adjusting your colors for an experiment of course.. you have a plant smaller than others concentrate the HPS on them and they will catch up..
There you go Chris you can make a few different videos on that

  18. The guest may not be considering all areas of the country. My ph drifts both up and down. It always has. I have two ph controllers.

  19. Absolutely one of the best creators on the web absolutely hands down just all around great content on every single episode and they just keep coming thanks Chris your the man!!! Tell rob and pigeons 420 we said hello and great other show Chris it’s absolutely amazing to see u guys expanding and getting bigger and better each and every show 👊💯🤙👍🤙😎👊💯

  20. Well done, gents!

Almost wished for a bit more conversational back and forth between you both, though I due appreciate the format of allowing a guest to speak, particularly when there are vast amounts of empirical knowledge being conveyed.

Glad you were able to speak on many of the topics and concepts you did, Simon, especially in regards to air flow/exchange, plant vigor w/ respect to lighting, as well as creating an atomized, nutrient-rich atmosphere, phenotype development , etc…

Incidentally, I think most would tend to overlook the value of the data and of how it pertains, and ultimately could pertain, to future grows. Even the incorporation of a photo-lifespan of a plant is tremendous in its own right.

If I may speak personally, I feel there is a point I would like to make, as it bares mentioning, and this may be directed to any who may ponder the questions as to the end results of what Simon has endeavored here:
Over the course of many years, and having been in the position of direct witness, I would humbly (though most emphatically) assert my belief that the quality of Simon's flower is not only impeccable, but astonishingly so. In my estimation, Simon is currently on par with (and even surpasses) some of the greatest growers of our time, bar none.
The incredible part is, the best is yet to come…

Hats off to you, my friend!
