Building my Backyard Garden Week 3 – This week was an eventful one in the garden buildout project as my seedlings starting to sprout and I began to transfer some to the garden beds but soon after encountered my first big garden challenge that almost destroyed all of my hard work so far!
This week’s garden updates include: planting my nursery finds, checking in on my surviving seedlings, getting creative to battle a garden challenge, creating a small banana orchard by our shore, and learning lessons.
Gardening for me is about more to me than just an abundant harvest. (Although that’s exciting too!) It’s a daily ritual and practice that makes me feel connected to something bigger and at the same time helps me balance responsibility with learning how to handle not being in total control. It’s a spiritual practice for me. And if you are like me and you find yourself struggling to create rituals that feel nourishing and meaningful in your own spiritual life, I encourage you to consider a creative outlet like a garden that can feel almost like church, help you cultivate qualities like patience, attention, and letting go as well as helping you to see that you CAN learn and grow and build beautiful things in the garden and in your life.

You are learning not to compare yourself to others. Meanwhile, I'm trying not to compare myself to you. If my garden was as far along as yours is, I would be thrilled. Success is so relative.
