In The Aftermath: Scrambling An Angel's Egg (ANIME ABANDON)

Mamoru Oshii’s Angel’s Egg is a tragically beautiful anime, and might very well be the best anime to never get an American release.

The sad part, though? We almost got one, but a terrible movie might have dashed any hopes.

  1. No! You were supposed to produce the anime, not make it live action!
To make better anime, not leave it in darkness

  2. Carnavalito Tango is sincerely one my favourite songs. It thrills me every time I hear it. I absolutely adore it’s rollicking yet ominous melody.

And it’s from In The Aftermath.

  3. eh, cosa?! stai in italia?? ma dai, figo! spero di beccarti (con rispetto ed educazione nei tuoi confronti lol) a qualche fiera del fumetto allora!

  4. I love angel's egg for the same reason I love serial experiments lain. I have no idea what's going on, and it's fascinating. I like shows and movies that get the brain wandering in new ways, and this definitely does that. It's also a great movie to fall asleep to, and I mean that in the best way. As for In the Aftermath, I'm curious to watch it just to see what an absolute shit show it is.

  5. "you have to break an egg to know what's inside" no, no you dont you idiot solider. there's such a thing as candling you moron.

  6. Sad that there isn't a single mention of how the art of Angel's Egg inspired the art direction of Hollow Knight…that fact is how I found out about this amazing film.

  7. I have to confess – I caught "In The Aftermath" late one night and was captivated by the anime sections – I looked at the end titles and made it my mission to track down Angel's Egg, which I finally did in 1997, on a Japanese DVD, direct from Japan. I had to get a region-free DVD player to watch it, but that was how deep into the movie I had gotten, and it was worth every second of research, every minute of waiting for the DVD to arrive, and every penny spent on the disc and player. A true masterpiece in every way, one I return to again and again, and possibly my favorite anime of all time (and I was around for the "golden age" of the late 80s and early 90s!)

  8. 4:24 the SMALLEST nitpick in the world. but you should have used a clip of the time Lupin and the gang met Jesus Christ' Sister, who is a Vampire.

  9. Now I find Angel's Egg to be an almost pointless slog into nihilism. That you find hope in it says a great deal about you Sage.

  10. Having hope for "Angel's Egg" getting an official release in its original state isn't all that different from my hope of "Rosario + Vampire" getting an anime adaptation that follows both seasons of the manga to the letter. ESPECIALLY season 2. I don't have a lot of hope, but I do have some. Maybe it won't happen today, tomorrow, next week, next month, or even next year. But maybe someday.

  11. I had actually watched this abomination before original Angel's Egg on russian cable tv channel broadcasted here in Ukraine. Thank for such sad story about decent anime.

  12. So………..I didn't know the live action existed until today, can I pretend I still don't know it exists? 🤣😭

  13. I remember watching Angel’s Egg on YouTube back when I was a teenager and not “getting it”. Maybe if I watch it again maybe I’ll come to some understanding better. I do recall listening to the soundtrack over and over lol

  14. The Kekko Kamen live action movies were also terrible and the worst adaptation I have seen. They look like soap operas and are also as boring as one and it wasn't even that funny. This series is supposed to be a comedy. I don't know how an adaptation of a comedy like this could be so damn boring. I guess the reason why it looks so cheap is so they could make multiple movies of this shit. I'd rather have one decent movie instead of four shitty ones.
    26:09 Ooh I like this one ;3.

  15. True story – this was aired once on late night on the UK channel ITV in the late 90's – i know that because i remeber watching it and…..yeah it was a thing alright.

  16. I actually saw this very late one weekend night or weekday summer night on a British terrestrial channel when I was a kid. I only saw a little of it, feel asleep about half way through, still thought it was mind-blowing (the imagery, especially of the ghosts hunting shadows of Coelocanths really struck me) and then years later when I was a teenager read about it in SFX magazine, and spent a long time after sporadically looking for the Anime. When I finally saw it all on YouTube a couple of years ago it was like completing a quest.

  17. I hope you talk about The Sky Crawlers someday. It’s probably Oshii’s most under the radar project, even with Angel’s Egg.

  18. Basic in the sense that (high school of the dead) at the time of release, you were just getting your YouTuber boots on

  19. I saw angels egg floating around on YouTube and just never gave it a second look but I think I will finally check it out. Also can't wait for highschool of the dead discussion lol

  20. Watch some of Oshii's lesser known work. it's full of scenes like the one described around the 7 minute mark.
