Ruth Stout Potato Harvest: Year 3 – No Dig Gardening
In our third year of growing potatoes in a Ruth Stout bed, we made a few changes in order to try to reduce the amount vole damage that we saw from last year.
In this potato harvest video 2022, we are harvesting several different potato varieties including: superior white potatoes, purple magic molly potatoes, Kennebec potatoes, Russet potatoes, and Yukon Gold potatoes.
In addition, we are looking to see what the results of placing hardware cloth under the bed and a vole deterrent device in the bed did in terms of reducing some of the damage from the voles.
Even though our results were not as large as last year’s harvest, we did see a marked decrease in the amount of vole damage, so that is a definitely plus for this ruth stout potato bed. If you want to know how to grow Ruth stout potatoes, or how easy it is to harvest them, check out this video.

I can't find a good source of budget friendly straw bales near me, so I haven't tried it. I really like growing potatoes in grow bags.
