Removing the Lawn w/ Sheet Mulching, Adding Native Plants and Fighting Japanese Pachysandra!

Hello! This weekend I worked on removing just a little more lawn with sheet mulching and I put up a barrier to prevent the Japanese pachysandra from spreading. This little cut out in the front garden bed has bothered me since we moved here and I can’t mow there easily so……why not expand the existing garden bed to make room for more native plants! I am putting in 3 ninebark cultivars I purchased on clearance. Over the winter I will figure out if I am going to let the creek sedge and/or fox sedge to move down in that area for ground cover or if I will choose a different ground cover.

Below are products I use all the time and the brands I love. I only recommend products that I use regularly and my recommendations are always based on personal experience.

  1. We have a similar problem with Japanese honeysuckle. There doesn't seem to be a good way to deal with it. I'm thinking of bringing in a priest to do an exorcism! 😆

  2. Hey Michelle, through trial and error, let the leaves whole, in the late spring, chop them. Most have broke down or blown away by then. Added bonus you’ll have some nice mulch to top off your beds in the spring.
