New SUMO TV show on Disney + “Sumo Do, Sumo Don't”

This video I discuss the FIRST THREE episodes of a new TV show on Disney + called SUMO DO, SUMO DON’T, which concerns a university Sumo club that is desperate to find new members and be in danger of closing.

Let me know your thoughts on the show below.

BTW – I went on Disney + tonight and found they do have the original movie from 1992 with English subtitles, so I plan on watching it in the near future.

Thanks for watching!

  1. I quite like the main heroin.
how she is so dedicated to sumo, but has no social skills.
It might be stereotypical for a tomboy character or whatever, but it would be a bit boring if the character had no room for growth.

hope the male lead will grow into a more likably character before long, but I have only seen the first episode.

  2. It seems to have a lot with Hinomaru Sumo which is an amazing sumo anime about kids in high school building a sumo club out of nothing – there was just 1 member then another protagonist joins and then they have to recruit at club day, then they have to get wins to get support and upgrades to their crappy sumo dojo. I think the first practice ring is even using garden hose. But even though it's a crappy practice ring it is pointed out that the dimensions are all perfectly correct, like the senior member had done the best with what he had. Then it gets into the weird subculture around amateur sumo stars, about how amateur and university and highschool yokozuna are so dissected and hyped in sumo journalism – like each high school yokozuna in the show is like this legendary figure who has epic moves, but that's not a bad thing in the show it's to show that they are worthy opponents, dragons to slay.

  3. It’s a shame that the original movie this is based on is impossible to find with English sub.

  4. Found it accidentally over the weekend, and just watched episode three. Overall, I agree, it’s great to see sumo on such mainstream display. I remind myself as the show continues that Disney is responsible for it, so the modern-day themes they weave into the show don’t bother me that much. Thx for the review

  5. Hi Jason! Susie in Az. I haven’t watched yet, I’ll wait and come back 😊

  6. It's a very sweet show but not saccharine, quite enjoyable. The body-builder dude resembles Terutsuyoshi in looks and attitude. It's possible to see it on pirate watch parties if you know where to look b/c f*ck Disney & Amazon

  7. You sound great man, good stuff. Your love of sumo has been consistent and it has gotten me way into it thanks!
