BUILDING THE HYBRID HOMESTEAD. From Concrete Footings to Metal Roof. We Got it Done. Vlog 137

In this episode, we’re back to work with the building of our Hybrid Homestead. From foundation footings to the ridge cap of the metal roof, we have built this ourselves. Our biggest DIY building project to date and we’re very pleased with our accomplishments. The next step is to build the cupola and start plumbing the building.

Happy hunting I hope. .ice fishing's coming soon . 5 inches of snow now and 5 days of snow in the next week coming. Another 12 feet total for winter I'm sure. But good luck take care and enjoy. 3. Thanks God for people like you!
Not too many, yet I'm glad that I've found your chanel.
We're doing a small project/ guest home to house us while we'll be building the main house without any extra hands.
This is a great example for us and great resources to follow.
We're going to look forward to your development.
    Thanks!
    Happy Thanksgiving! Just in case…
    Stay strong, healthy and happy!

  4. Wow… Extremely well done. I just love seeing you too working together developing your Homestead and building such a large structure. Congratulations to you both. You guys sure know how to live. Best to you and yours… pats for the pups.

  5. That's a fine structure. One to be very proud of, one to use with confidence and peace of mind. A thought. After a thorough cleaning of the exterior of the wood stove, ever considered seasoning it like you would cast iron cookware?

  6. What is the bracket on the end of the ladder when you slid the ladder up the roof . Than you turned it over to lock it over the ridge . Is it a purchased item or home made ? Thank you for any info you can share .

  7. WOW! I’m speechless! I am amazed! What a wonderful thing you two have built… the building and the life. May you have many, many more healthy years to enjoy the fruits of your labors!

  8. What a brilliant episode, I have thoroughly enjoyed watching it. You two give me so much inspiration to get out there and get things done.
    Many thanks
    David in the UK.

  9. 45* pitch is a bit#% ours was 12/12 and I wish I would’ve had ladder jacks.
I didn’t like being 25’ in the air at 60 years old. But hey. We are dried in for this winter. Thank
You J.C. And Lori for doing what you do.
I have learned so much from you. And I love my book Back to basics.
    Awesome book.
    So much information in it.
    God Bless 🙏🏻

  10. Question….When age 20-30-40 years old, did you see more and more building in your future…..or was THIS the last one? Just curious, I'm familiar with your moto of dream chasing, just wondering how that has changed over the years.

  11. Regarding your collar ties, I understand why you wanted to line up the tie with the rafters but you aren't getting much "tie force" with just those nails. I suggest you go ahead and "sister" the typical collar ties next to your existing ties or install metal truss plates to connect the collar tie and the rafter together. BTW, I used to do home inspections and you installed the roof venting and rockwool insulation correctly. I can't tell you have many people screw it up.

  12. Hi guys glad to see all is well. Thanks so much for linking below the other 2 videos of this new build. I can now put them together in a list. I will be moving up there next year (May-ish) to start building my own cabin and accessory buildings in the woods as well – from the ground up! Your knowledge and experience is priceless! Thanks again. God Bless:)

  13. Great insulation tips boss. Retro fitting this old house may be difficult, but will definitely take notes for the planned retirement "cabin in the woods" 💞

  14. Sure Is Going To Be A Sweet Place To Call HOME ! You, Boss & Lori Are A Swell Team, Oh Lets Not 4-Get Them 2 Sweet Hooligans Too ! Have A Swell Week Ahead ! ATB T God Bless

  15. Greetings from PEI, Boss and Lori. That was an info packed video. Bubble foil, taping ladder, rolling the stove on PVC to the peck on the cheek as you were working on roof. Beautiful structure. My log home has the same colour metal roof. All the best, weather looked great!

  16. We here in nortern messachusetts hope you checked out Dirt Road Discussions.

And if you did what are your thoughts about it?
