Setagaya Park | Japanese Garden in Vienna during Cherry Blossom Season | Vienna's best parks

Welcome to a fascinating Japanese garden in Vienna – Setagaya park, which is particularly beautiful during cherry blossom (sakura) season, when everything shines in a single pink splendor. The park is opened every day from 7 a.m. between April 1st and October 31st. From May to August the park can be visited until 9 p.m.

The park was created in 1992 and represents the friendship and cultural agreement between Setagaya, a district in Tokyo, and the 19th district of Döbling in Vienna.

Right in front of the main entrance a stone monument immediately catches your eye. The Japanese word “Furomon” is depicted on it, which is translated as “paradise” and makes it clear to visitors where they are. If you stroll carefully through the park, you will discover the typical and characteristic symbols of a Japanese garden: a spring, small waterfalls, a pond, various stones and the special plants. There are also bridges spanning small rivers.

Pay attention to the details and “read” Japanese gardens – stones, for example, symbolize animals that are integrated into nature. Moss symbolizes age, which in Japan also means honor. Trees, in turn, are a symbol for life and a symbol for being human, as they are part of a whole and at the same time individual.

This park is a true feast for eyes during spring blooming period, so be aware of rather high amount of visitors. So our advise is to come early and have your morning coffee before it gets crowded, you will be amazed by the birds singing and peaceful atmosphere. This park is equally beautiful in summer and autumn season and offers unique opportunity to escape every day stress and find some relaxation.
