One of the Smallest Searches Phil Has Ever Done | Location Location Location | All Homes

Phil and Kirstie are in the south west of England this week, taking on two sets of hapless house hunters. Ghika and Ronnie have £350,000 to spend on a three or four bedroomed house which must be in Bradford on Avon. That’s a tiny search area of less than two square miles – in fact it’s one of the smallest search areas Phil’s ever had.

Property professionals like Phil Spencer and Kirsty Allsopp know all the secrets of successful house-hunting: being clear about what you want, aiming high and, above all, being prepared to compromise.
Our experts work to a brief of must-have attributes: number of bedrooms, character property or new build, but the most important aspect is always… Location, Location, Location! From auction houses and estate agencies, to websites and word-of-mouth, they leave no stone unturned in their quest for the best. They then have the unpredictable task of showing the house-hunters around a shortlist of properties that appear to fit the bill. Will they have judged their tastes correctly? Do these people even know what they want?

  1. Ronnie and Ghika's search was doomed from the beginning. When you're that specific with your criteria, no amount of help or searching is going to find it. I'm surprised that the "right house" came up at the "right moment." Seemed unlikely.

  2. I can understand why ghika and Ronnie haven't found a place in 10yrs it'd none of thier business were anyone puts there baking stuff

  3. Those people are so spoilt, the "ten year looking" couple are shown 4 lovely houses which closely fit to a tough solution and they are not happy, to be honest makes me feel a bit ill !

  4. I just skipped over Ronnie and Ghikas part. They are in sufferable.

  5. Love this show so much. One thing that surprises me, living in the US, is the size (or lack of) in many of the houses…people here are super spoiled and seem to require huge spaces as a right, it seems. I heard Phil describe an 1100 sq ft house as “huge” once , which startled me, as my first started house, a 2-bedroom, was more than that and most two-bed apts are about 1000-1100 sq ft. where I live. The houses my sister sells in TX are seldom under 3500 sq ft. For me, as a single person, the less the better lol…I have a 600 sq ft apt and feel like I could be comfortable with a smaller place. I want less room to accumulate stuff so the obsession with storage on these shows makes me laugh sometimes. I am constantly trying to get rid of stuff. But obviously I am not the average target market for these shows and am sure most people think the opposite. Right now I am debating a move after 8 years as I really want an enclosed patio or little yard for my small dog…but if I can’t that I won’t bother with the expense and hassle of moving. Again thanks for posting.

  6. Phil : Just give me a few minutes. I'll knock on the neighbour's door and ask them to vacate so you can buy their place. How's that for a limited search area find?

  7. (13:44) "NOooooo!!!" they want to replace the William Morris wallpaper!!! Heresy! (And I am NOT a fan of wallpaper. But this is WILLIAM MORRIS! …at least, I THINK it is).

  8. The couple looking for 10 years have a problem….. They have Absolutely no imagination…..I don't think I can even bear to carry in past the first house

  9. I don't know if it's me being naive but when Kirstie and Phil say things like "you might have to act fast or lose out on what you want", it really doesn't sound like a high pressure tactic (to me) it could in someone else's way of talking. I know it's meant to push them to make a decision but it's almost as if this show really shows the thought processes the fearful buyers go through, which often can be just fears talking. To be fair the buyers DO need to be making a decision. It IS a lot of money. You ARE going to wonder if you made the right decision. But there's something about Kirstie and Phil that comes across as clear and honest and sincere. That is a very valuable asset!

That being said, Ronnie & Ghika needs to be drop-kicked. That is TOO picky. I would have wanted to slap him when he said that about compromise but it was clear he was NOT meaning himself. Good for her calling him on it.

  10. That weaver cottage is quaint and delicious… That fireplace, that garden room etc. Re-paint the rooms white and I'd buy that! If he does not like the kitchen – remodel it!

  11. I'd like the first house, that Kirsty showed the first time couple. I love the Victorian style

  12. 9:00 why put so much emphasis on being within walking distance of your children's school? By the time you find a house, the kids will have graduated.
