  1. Your garden is full and rich and inviting. And your dog is a perfect compliment. My garden is tiny and hidden and so are my dogs until they pop out barking at you like the little flowering bushes. lol Lucky me, my garden grows those red flowers easily, but here they are orange.

  2. Very dry and temps in the mid-90sF here in Southcentral Pennsylvania, USA, day 10. I envy you! Crocosmia won't grow for me (will keep trying) and my single surviving clump of Acanthis mollis refuses to bloom. He's being moved this fall to a sunnier spot. RE: Rare varieties. I agree! I've got some unusual plants from small nurseries and they do wonderfully well, as long as you provide them with the right spot. If a more common type of the same species does well, I'm willing to take a chance on a more "oddball" variety.

  3. Thank you for your wonderful output. Your videos are always so encouraging and informative, not to mention inspirational.

  4. Another wonderful video. And I just want to say how helpful it is that you include such useful links. About to watch the "unusual plant" video.

  5. I have the same Crocosmia, as well as an orange one, they really multiplied over winter, and they're looking fabulous. I've had them for a long time, since I removed a Mimosa tree they've really taken off. Mine get morning sun, a lot of it too. I really like the Acanthus, I've always liked tall flowering plants, I'm amazed at how tall the Foxglove are in the UK, wondering what you all feed the gardens over there.

  6. I enjoy dead heading my roses as I find it almost like meditation – I recently said to a friend “I only dead head once a day”.

I like the climbing plant which was on the wall behind you – could you tell me what it is please ?

  7. I so agree that you have to experiment pushing the limits regarding location of plants and even types of plants in your garden. Sometimes they can really surprise you.

  8. DEAD HEADING tips from the garden of Anne Boleyn. I'm sure King Henry would have had a good chuckle at that. Poor Anne. :0( Strangely enough I have just added a short tribute video to David Austin who passed away 2 years ago, showing a selection of his roses, and one of them is called Anne Boleyn.

  9. I grew the lilac tinged Acanthus from seed ! it has been in situ for 6 years and hasnt been too invasive ! I will try the white , as for mombretia so many people just wont have it in their garden mee love it xx

  10. I was always a fan of crocosmia foliage, but now the flowers are getting my attention. Alexandra, if you have any pointers on planting the corms I'm all ears as I intend to buy some either for fall planting or next spring. Thanks.

  11. It's very true what you're saying about experimenting. I have astilbe that just never got the memo that it belongs in a shady spot. It's in the sunniest part of my garden and blooms like crazy.

  12. Your dog is beautiful (as is your garden, but that hardly needs saying!). I do a lot of training/dog sports with my dog and need space in my yard to set up equipment as well as space to just play fetch, etc. Right now it's a sad, bland utilitarian rectangle of grass and not much else, but I hate that and would love to have a garden or at least some basic landscaping! I wondered if you have any tips or ideas on how to plan a nice looking garden when you also need the area to be functional.

Right now the best I can come up with is essentially just pushing everything to the edges of the yard… but I suspect that will look amateurish and a bit silly.

  13. You have a beautiful garden! Those roses are to die for! I just added some floribundas to my patio garden and am enjoying their blooms!

  14. Your garden is so beautiful no matter the season. Your acanthus mollis looks great. I hope to add some to my garden in the near future. Thanks

  15. Your lavender are fabulous. I can't wait until mine can go in the ground somewhere, I have mainly dwarf ones in large pots at the moment. At our old house I had huge ones in the ground, always covered in bees. I also have a very pretty white lavender in a pot, which I have never seen before, given to me as a gift a few months ago.
