Garden Plans

Blueprint plans at the Chateau!

In this episode, we start to restore the stonework around our water source, now that the new pipework is in place. We also draw up some very detailed blueprints on how the completed area could look, and we cook a delicious, rich Katsu chicken curry for lunch.

Welcome to our channel, and thanks for being here! We are Helen and Paul, and with our young family, we moved to France in the middle of 2020, during the pandemic (we bought before it became a pandemic, but completing the process took a long time), to take advantage of freedom of movement within the EU before Brexit would make this impossible. Our new home is a beautiful seven-bedroom 18th Century chateau situated in the Lot countryside.

We have no DIY skills (Paul’s a software engineer and Helen was an IT Buyer) and have never restored a house before, so to say that this adventure is going to be a learning experience is a massive understatement, especially since we have a 3 year old daughter and a 5 year old son who are always keen to ‘help’ with anything that we do.

(We also only have GCSE-level French so apparently we really, really enjoy a challenge…)

  1. You need more cement / lime mix to fill the gaps. Don’t get any on the rock. You two are clowns. Thanks for the fun videos. I always look forward to them.

  2. Helen, I love curry and your recipe looks amazing, the whole dish was wonderful. Paul, there wasn't a way to put the drain below ground level, and let the water just drain over the concrete into the drain. Lol, I can't wait for Part 2 Love you guys. Love from N.Y.

  3. Helen laughing is infectious🤣😂🤣In it’s current and foreseen configuration this water abatement issue is going to wash down the hillside in the first few torrents of rain that come through this winter.

  4. That is the best dish you have made I think anyway can,t wait to try it. I,m going to do what the cat did about the drain No comment😁😁

  5. Another interesting and dynamic presentation , thank you . Please keep the cards and letters from the Chateau coming….they brighten the day in a way you would never know ! Great recipe!

  6. 😂🤣😂🤣. Oh dear… how is water suppose to go into the drain when it sits up higher…😂 . I have a feeling next episode will be fixing the mess and a new wheelbarrow! Kudos for trying Paul.

  7. It was fine. It's a grate. But it looked perfect after you adjusted it. Bravo!
Helen, you are a pillar of restraint. I recommend chopping more wood. It's not as controversial.
I do think Brico Marché must have a nice selection of twiddly bits if you really need some. They're in the twigget aisle.
Helen, sometimes just saying "no" is the best option. I would not steer you wrong
The lunch looked fantastic. I like a bit if heat too. Katsu curry, hmmm! More cooking and less DIY, the end results look much better.
Good on you Paul for fetching all of those awful bamboo roots.
If Paul is a princess, what does that make you Helen?
Curiosity… and satisfaction brought him back! So my mom always used to say.
    Keep it crazy!
    💘 from TX.

  8. Put down some rubber flower bed edging on either side of the well to channel the water to the drain system then fill in with stones to hold in place.

  9. Great video. Again, I laughed out loud thru this whole episode. I really needed that. I live in So. Florida and worn out from concern over a couple of hurricanes that passed thru our state. Keep making your wonderful videos. I truly love them.😻

  10. Oh dear I do hope it ends up looking in keeping with the beautiful old water source, to honour the beauty of it! 😢

  11. The recipe looks delicious. I really was expecting fallopian tunes and Homer at the end was hilarious.

  12. You could also make a curry stew with the left over curry. We add potatoes and cubed chicken or beef. Serve over rice as well. That’s a favorite here in Hawaii😊
