Odd Mystery Dust On All of My Plants

Who thinks that if I take the heater apart, I’m going to find a ton of hard water buildup in there? After thinking about this for a long time, I’m thinking it has to be mineral deposits from the humidifier that are building up in the heater and then getting blown around the grow space. Easy fix, add a tap water filter for filling the reservoir and clean the heating element on the heater. What do you all think?

  1. Who thinks that if I take the heater apart, I'm going to find a ton of hard water buildup in there? After thinking about this for a long time, I'm thinking it has to be mineral deposits from the humidifier that are building up in the heater and then getting blown around the grow space. Easy fix, add a tap water filter for filling the reservoir and clean the heating element on the heater. What do you all think?

  2. Can you take it to your local conservation water district lab or university to have them put it under a microscope. OR, use your macro lens on your camera to see it up close.

  3. Is there something going on with your furnace? Does the filter need to be changed? 🍁🍂🍁🦃💚🙃

  4. It might help crack the mystery if you look at you chair dust under a magnifying glass….to give you more clues….pollen, animal, mineral, or spores? Keep us posted. It does seem most likely it would be the heater that has sat over the summer drying minerals…… I bet you're right. It's falling from above..

  5. Welcome to California! Wake up with that crap all over the house. Start off each day dusting the furniture and counters. You have air pollution coming from an outside vent or from something you're running in the garage? What's changed in the space? What's new in the space? The table in the pond is new…that would be weird if that were causing it. Good luck! 🙂

  6. I also think the minerals in the water…If that is possible to be large enough to see..

  7. Do you have exposed drywall in this space? I'm wondering if it's beginning to deteriorate from the humidity. I'm not sure that ultrasonic water particles are large enough to transport minerals…but maybe so. 🤔 🤷‍♀️

  8. hey I got 4 palms I'm in Illinois what should I do indoors to keep them healthy

  9. I'm with you Jeff. I think it may very well be the humidifier. Are you using filtered water? That should help resolve it if not.

  10. Things that have recently changed in the grow space:
    1) Removing and replacing the shelf in the pool could have stirred up minerals.
    2) You mentioned changing an air filter.
    3) You mentioned replacing windows.

Regardless of the cause, I recommend wearing an N95 mask until the issue is resolved.
    Good luck!
    😺✌️

  11. That is 100% mineral deposits from the sonicating humidifier. I would bet you're refilling the pond with tap water, and due to evaporative loss the TDS content of the pond has been increasing – thereby increasing the amount of minerals that are being released into the air by the sonicator.
I have that happen here if I use tap in the humidifier because we have such limestone rich water.

  12. I read somewhere that unless humidifier is designed for tap water over time you will see white dust everywhere from minerals in water. This could be what you are seeing.

  13. I had this problem and it was the humidifier. And I used supposed “filtered” water. Makes you wonder what the hard water has in it. 😮😳🫢

  14. I guess based on feedback the good news is it’s not an insect or bug problem which would be a nice problem
