  1. well, I have a new Japanese Maple project I want now. LOL, just got to find a tree! Can't wait to see the future updates. Thanks, Jim!

  2. What a great project to try. Can this be done with other type of tress as well? And how long will you keep it in the original pot?

  3. Jim I stacked a one gallon dragon master zig zag across a bamboo stack late this spring. It is amazing how fast it grew once it took off. The trunk thickened up much more than I was expecting. All that is to say, watch the wire on this one early. Fun and informative video as always!

  4. Very unique! Might try this if I can find the right young tree! Thanks for the detailed visual explanation!

  5. Love your channel and love Holly β€πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦(Vancouver BC)

Could you start bending from the two foot mark?

Could you not measure out the height of tree add a few inches and cut the wire before starting?

When you take the wire off in the spring will it stay bent while you rewire?

  6. Can't wait to try this with something! I like how your big one has the bends in all directions, not just one plane.

  7. Great video! I also just got a dragon master from Mr Maple. I’m very excited to see this cultivar grow and mature.

  8. Yay! It’s β€œCraft Time with Jim”! How fun. I’d love to try this. Thank you for explaining this so thoroughly. A lot of us need this detailed, step-by-step instruction. πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

  9. I’ve found it easier to stick the end of the wire in the soil about eight inches or more depending on pot depth then start wrapping around tree trunk, it also adds stability in the wind.

  10. I always start mine with a "question mark" look for the first year. My first bonsai attempt and success was with a ginnala maple that is still growing in the middle of a pink rose bush…the 2 together make an interesting display…9 years later.

  11. I’m starting year 2 with. Young, in-ground β€˜Orangeola’ maple from the Nichols brothers. Using a 6-foot stake and vinyl tape. Mme Passepartout says it looks like a pole dancer.

  12. Great video! I have a boxwood topiary with 4 Pom poms. The nursery person where I bought it said something about wrapping wire on the stems to hold them away from the main trunk. But my first attempt didn’t really work. Now I understand so much better from your demonstration. Thanks!
