  1. You have an out of balance blade on that zero turn. Appears to be the middle blade with the fraying or odd cut. Try a Lazer Z 2023 model and it has adjustable rake in the deck to help with conditions present at time of mowing

  2. Very interesting to see your work now that you have the space to really experiment.

Loving the shade and drought grass experiments. We have heavy shaded yard with some patches that receive nearly full all day sun. Been renovating the yard since we bought the house 7 yrs ago and has been a learning curve trying to find the right balance of grasses for different conditions.

Moss in the shady wetter areas.
Grass drying out in the full sun during low rain late summer.

And trying to level things out.

Love your informative channel and looking forward to what 2023 brings

  3. Nice, pretty soon you’ll have a national test plot probably coming up with some new grass types lol

  4. I did a pool fill in mid October. 10 days later and nothing. I put plastic over it and the next day it popped. Its been growing slowly but our weather is now 30-40 degrees. Wait until next year and see how it does.

  5. Good knowledge about the blankets. I've been hoping to get couch seed down in my front yard here in southern Australia. I haven't been able to get seed down as we've been having some really weird sporadic temperatures due to La Nina. I might go and get some plastic and give it a go so I can get it down and hopefully get it going before it heats up very soon.

  6. Great update Ryan. It it quite amazing how much darker green the plots with the Green ORR treatment are. I noticed my yard did not keep as much color late in the season this year as I changed my fertilizer program. Looking forward to more inspiration in the coming months from you. Keep up the good work.

  7. Everything is looking fantastic Ryan! That Milwaukee mower does an excellent job, but I'll still stay with my commercial Honda! I've been surprised how good my new California Trimmer has performed, the yard is looking so, so good, as long as I can keep the coons and possums from digging! Take care and don't work too hard!

  8. Will you do a Bermuda / Couch plot? Maybe princess 77? Or not hot enough in your location?

  9. Hey Ryan,
When you started your test plots I thought you were going to do one with Kentucky 31. Did that get planted? I havent heard any reference to it but maybe I missed it in other episodes.
Personally I havent had much luck with it. But the weeds came in strong.

  10. For the average lawn what height should I cut my lawn to for the winter. Right now it's 2.5". Green Bay WI

  11. Wow the bottom plots are lookin Braw Ryan. Lovely and green. I love the wee hand push mower. My Dad always used this on his lawn, never a power mower and he always got great results. The top will survive and become a lush area. Loved this wee catch up. Kevin

  12. If you want a real nice push mower with a larger cutting width, check out the Ferris FW-15 or Snapper SW-15. 32" cut with Honda motor. It's pretty awesome little mower, although not cheap at around $3200.00. I'm picking mine up for next season.

  13. I live in suburbs of Minneapolis. I originally planted Seed Superstore KBG. While it did look great in Spring with tons of rain, the summers in Minnesota have been getting a lot dryer and hotter, and it became too costly to water as much as the KBG requires.
I did a renovation this fall and killed the KBG. I switched over to all TTTF. I'm hoping it will be less costly (water bills) and look alot better for more of the year vs KBG. Any opinions ?? I loved the KBG in the Spring. It's beautiful. But unless it's receiving A LOT of water all summer it will go completely dormant.

  14. CGI TURF just reviewed a rotary mower that cuts 3/4" up to 2 5/8" but it's expensive.

  15. Glad to see things one more time before winter. What's your take on the Milwaukee mower–have you done a review on it?

  16. Bro, I double back the edge so the staples go through two layers of the same sheet. Works good as!

  17. I threw down the remainder of a TTTF bag in December last year, was like putting out a giant bird feeder. Within hours there were 40-50 winter birds, from tiny finches to cardinals. Birds that are not around all summer and fall. 2 days later the seed was gone. Bare dirt. Which explains the poor spring germination.

  18. Zero turns can cut nice – I bought a Scag Liberty Z 36" zero turn this fall and I'm blown away by how smooth it cuts. Better than the Honda and Ego push mowers I had previously.

  19. Oh I love the tall fescue I just love planting grass and seeing what happens lol like experiments or going to the bar or something go grab some grass seed and play in the dirt

  20. I think I would do that sea of green rye grass for fast weed free ground cover then seed and seed and seed like crazy and let tall fescue grow in and go to seed to just dominate

  21. I would try to time the growth so I cut the grass going into this time of year go in and weed wack the seeds when its dry wait for a good rain then cut dry short for straw cover and get good rain even leaves and snow and rake and clean going into hard freeze so it's clean dried and hardened going in the real snow and even when it snows a foot or more that can insulate from the wind and it can still keep growing and the snow melts

  22. Large Non native mono cultures is what’s driving away our native species, provides nothing for the wildlife. Let it be natural and benefit all living things, not just visually appealing and convenient for humans

  23. Ryan, how do you calculate the N or pounds on N for your water soluble product? Or did I miss the video where that was explained. I only recall you mentioning how many pounds of N you were getting based off how much you were applying at that time in an earlier video.
