Japanese Black Pine Calendar for 2022
Late Winter:
Start to fertilize once you see the buds swelling
Here in the PNW, my buds started to swell
at the end of February
Fertilizer Schedule:
Feb 27th
March 30th
May 17th – Last application of fertilizer until Fall
Decandling:
June 20th
Date is chosen based on PNW’s growing season and how long I want
the new buds to grow. Earlier you decandle, you get longer needles and longer internodes.
The later you decandle, the shorter your needles and internodes will be.
Bud selection and fertilize:
Mid October – end of November
Once buds open up and harden off(needles are hard and pokey). You then select 2 buds
that are similar in size relative to the tree.
Next year I will be wiring. I would’ve wired this year but life is pretty busy right now!
Thank you very much for your new and continued support!

My apologies if it's in the previous video, but what sort of soil is this in? Loving the way it's developing!
